Stern, then Shooter, then a bunch that I have no strong delineation between, then Geoff Johns. :)

I may as well give mine in list form as well:

    1. Busiek
    2. Stern
    3. Englehart
    4. Harras
    5. Slott
    6. Thomas
    7. Byrne

The rest range from OK... to bad.

I know his West Coast Avengers run was brief, but I voted for John Byrne.

His brief run is still my all time favorite Avengers run. Even though there isn't 100's of issues of stories to draw from. Wish there would have been though.

I dig the essential volumes, so I've still got a lot of love for Stan Lee; however, I was in my local shop yesterday and picked up a few back issues from the fifty cent bin. Some of the ones I picked up were Mighty Avengers #23, 28-29. And I must say, within three issues, I was quite impressed with the work of Dan Slott. I plan on picking up all three trades collecting his run on the title, simply because I really, really liked the line-up he used and all of his stories were pretty epic in scope. It more or less made me love the idea of Hank Pym as the new Wasp.
Locke & Key, Saga, Thief of Thieves

Roger Stern is my favourite Avengers writer, but Ed Brubaker is my favourite overall writer on that list.
Reading: Fantastic Four, All-Star Western, Aquaman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Justice League, Demon Knights, Scalped and The Walking Dead

Stan Lee laid the foundation and deserves first mention. Period.
Then my list does seem to take a rather chronological order:

Roy Thomas, Englehart, Conway, Stern, and Shooter, and Busiek.

Conway's run, although only seven issues, I thought were just outright fun.

    Where's Christos Gage?

If he continues on his path of writing excellent Avengers based series, I could see him being my favorite. I hope one day he gets the chance to write a story for the main book.

Same for Slott, I think with time he could have easily been one of my favorites. He didn't get to really write enough to take the spot away from Busiek.

Slott and Busiek, but I picked Slott because I know he won't get as much love as KB.

This just in: Chris Sprouse has pulled out of Orson Scott Card.

Sometimes I think our comic book tastes are eerily similar.

    Busiek
    Stern
    Johns
    Englehart
    Harras

The rest had their moments, but I don't love their entire runs.
