I've thought of who I'd like to be Anole's closest friend group. Back in New Mutants, he was basically a Hellion. He always was seen with Hellion, Mercury, and Rockslide (and when Elixir was friends with them, he was there too).

I think I'd make it Rockslide, Elixir, Loa, Pixie, and Indra. But I'd still keep him very friendly with Mercury and Hellion of course.

I'm sure its common knowledge by now, about Anole's original slated suicide issue, but I'm not sure if everyone has seen some of the art that was prepared for it. In the original storyline, Karma was dating Luna (Surge's boss at the Grindstone) and they kissed in front of Victor's parents at Visiting Day. Vic's parents complained to Cyclops and Emma about how they thought it was inappropriate. And so Victor took that opportunity to come out to his parents. Later in the issue, Hellion, Elixir, and the other students would have discovered the truth as well. They were going to bully and abandon Victor about it. At the end of the issue, Josh would have gone to apologize to Victor, but he would have found his body instead.

Here's the coming out scene that never made print:

Its funny because it really feels like he was set up to be on the Hellion squad, but was going to commit suicide and then didn't. Leaving him on the Alpha Squadarn.

What is this, Horseville? Because I'm surrounded by naysayers.

Kinda like Rockslide in K/Y's NXM. He was slated to die in the Nimrod fight, but then at the last second, they changed their minds, and he came back in his new form. But in every scene after that fight, he's seen with the "background" kids, and not Mercury, Hellion, or the rest of the main kids.
I had no idea the scene had made it as far as art. I am so glad it didn't happen.
I believe the issue made it to the printers, but was scrapped at the very last second, before they printed. So I'm sure the rest of Khary Randolph's pencils are out there somewhere.

EDIT: Ugg, I'm not sure if its Khary Randolph or Carlo Barberi. They split art duties for the book around that time, sometimes in the same issue. This is one of those issues. There are two versions of Anole that appeared around that time, and i'm not sure which is which! Can anyone help? These are the two:

Update on my art confusion: Its Carlo Barberi. The coloring is just different for Anole in each of those pictures. But both issues are done by Avalon Studios’ Ian Hannin & Rob Ro, but I guess they just split the duties, and each of them have slightly different styles.

That's an awesome idea. But Anole would need to be a more significant character for it to happen. Maybe in the next couple of years if he gets bigger? N&C and Carlo Barberi back again would be sweet! Telling the original story would be so interesting.

Is the "From The Vault" thing that the Thunderbolts had this month a release of previously unreleased material? Maybe it could be done in that.

Still it would probably not sell well without some major characters in it.

It'd work among NXM fans. If NXM sales when they ended were any indication, there'd be at least 20K issues sold. Thats enough to keep certain books afloat. Not many, but for a one-shot? It'd work. And if it was at a time where Hellion, Anole, and Elixir were a little more popular, it would get around 30K probably.

Silverstri or Ramos draw my favorite Anole, imo.

I think it's better that issue was never printed. I think those stories would only serve to make suicidal teens even more depressed and helpless. I don't think it gains sympathy or helps. idk. I'm not sure.

Really? I thought it was kinda boring. I guess its hard to say cus really, we've only seen Silvestri draw Anole in this issue, right?

I dont think it was originally meant as a message. I think it was just a story about how even among outcasts, people feel alone. They spun that on Wallflower too in that series. Julian referred to her as a "freak among freaks". It also would have humbled Josh alot. In those issues, he was very similar to Julian: cocky, arrogant, thought he was the shit. This would have knocked him down a few pegs, and probably brought him closer together with David, Sofia, and Laurie.

I dunno, I think it would help bring attention to a social issue thats tragically far too common.

But again, as stated, I'm so happy it never happened. Because then we wouldnt have Anole!

I think those issues are potential triggers for depressive even if it's obviously not the intent behind them. They should end with the person calling and receiving help. That's helpful. Especially in a super hero comic book.

The kind that ends badly plays into a persecuted person's mindset, which needs to be corrected.

What if the person reading the story sees how distraught every other character is? What if they see how it didnt solve the problem? These stories arent meant to be happy, they're meant to be awful for the other characters involved. I'm just playing devil's advocate here, I'm not trying to say I think reading about suicide is therapeutic, I'm just thinking out loud.
