    Default Best In-House Avengers Rivalries.

From the serious to the silly, the Avengers have had some pretty good beefs between teammates. Which one(s) did you like?

The Vision/Simon feud was my favorite. Two powerhouses going toe-to-toe becasue of the Scarlet Witch. And they were basically the same guy. I still don't like that they altered the Vision's brain patterns later on.

Scott Lang and Jack of Hearts' rivalry got pretty nasty towards the end, there. and it ended in Jack's murder-suicide (soon followed by Scott's death/Jack's detonation).

The Vision/Simon feud is my favourite too.

Iron Man/Cap for me. They are brothers who can be best friends one minute and trying to tear each other apart the next. Plus Civil War is my all time favorite event and that basically boiled down to Iron Man/Cap.

I agree! Their rivalry is the one that stands out the most to me.

Other than that, I'd say USAgent/Hawkeye back in the WCA. That was awesome stuff

Hawkeye and Cap usually have a fun one.

In fact that's continued in some ways with Bucky and Clint. But Herc and Namor was great too, especially given the astounding "gift" he gave Namor.

I agree. In fact that one came to mind first.

Cap/Hawk-eye's rivalry was great because it paved the way for their great friendship later on. Where as Iron Man/Cap is more of brotherly thing, Cap/Hawkeye is more of a Mentor or Teacher trying to deal with a particularly stubborn student. It was awesome.

For the record though I also like Namor/Herc, and love the resentment of the Avengers towards the Hulk. Hulk is still sort of seen as that one black spot on their record that's never lived down.

That was a good one too. I think eventually they would have gone the route of Hank and Simon(without the nightlife) had they still been alive.

i doubt it unless you're talking about Jack somehow returning from death. his arc was to win Scott Lang over in-death; which he did. i wonder, if he had survived, if he and Scott wouldn't have been subject to Avengers court martial. they very blatantly executed that crazy kidnapper guy. sure, he was probably a scumbag. but they had no real proof besides him kidnapping Cassie. the guy seemed insane. he probably would have wound up in a "home for the criminally insane," as opposed to the electric chair. i could imagine Scott hanging out with Simon and McCoy. he was very much about hanging out with other heroes. he had already helped Simon get a job at Cordco, at one point. and Beast was his doctor during that Onslaught mess. Jack i can actually imagine hanging out with Eric O'Grady. they are probably about the same age.

That's what I'm talking about. Jack's death really touched Scott. At one point they were starting to accept and like each other. They may not have gotten as close as Simon and Hank did but I they had a strange but budding friendship going on.

She-Hulk/Hawkeye and Namor/Hercules were the most entertaining for me. That will always be my favorite run.

It was funny to see Clint a bit miffed at Jens strength. Jen carrying Clint is forever burned in my head. Herc and Nam strutting around like peacocks and competing for "Who's the man title." were some of the highlights when that run got dark. Ah, memories.

There were two very different rivalries going on when I first started reading the Avengers:

Mantis vs. Scarlet Witch in Avengers - I guess this was the inspiration for the later Sersi vs. Crystal feud. Two superwomen vying for the attention of one indecisive dude, or synthezoid as it were. I liked watching Mantis in action with her cool martial arts and naughty grass skirt, but I considered Wanda and Vision to be the real item. And I felt bad for Swordsman, who was trying to focus on atoning for his past sins and was being betrayed by Mantis.

Captain America vs. Hawkeye in Marvel Triple Action (the Avengers reprint title) - I respected Cap for being the noble leader who tried so hard to lead these reformed criminals. But I also like Hawkeye for being so brash and resourceful. And when he single-handedly defeated Swordsman and Power Man, I was thrilled. Since then, Hawkeye has always been one of my favorite heroes.

That said, my all-time favorite is Captain America vs. Iron Man. Two heroes with very different viewpoints and values, each struggling to lead the team his way. Actually, their first serious clash played out in the pages of Iron Man's own title, during the first Armor Wars. I have no favorite in this one, just great respect for both characters.
