Good for Mr. Kirkman. His book has true mainstream, pop culture appeal and constantly increases in sales each month. I don't think his method applies to all comics as he is a rarity in the industry, but I love the Walking Dead and hope this is successful for him.
Long as the real Comic Book version still comes out and takes the front seat like it should.
I wish they would give a free digital copy to those who buy the print books.
Put a kiosk in the comic shop (the kiosk is basically a computer with an internet connection and an Apple device connector). Each comic shop location has the ability to log into an image server and download as many digital books as physical books they buy. When I buy a physical copy of a book, I can connect my ipad and get the digital copy.
Kirkman, if you're thinking of raising your book prices to $3.50 (palatable) or $3.99 (enraging!!!) then a free digital copy would make the transition easier and cost you (minus startup costs) no more.
OR
Do a rental program for 99 cents a digital copy. If Apple can force TV shows to be rented for one dollar, then comics as entertainment will become way too expensive.
Rhino does that at times with the vinyl records they put out. For example, if you buy the remastered Smiths albums on vinyl, they come with a passcode to access the mp3's of the album for free. That allows one to listen to the album on their phonograph, then have the mp3's on their ipod, laptop, or what have you.
And don't compare giving out a physical product for free with 0's and 1's, it's illogical at best. It doesn't cost money to mass manufacture 0's and 1's.
And if one puts those 0's and 1's up on a free hosting site, it doesn't even cost them any money to distrubute those 0's and 1's.
Current Pull List: The Walking Dead, Revival, and TMNT (sometimes)
