And this is why I wanna read about Catwoman, so I can know her true origins...the media has me all confused.

As much as I love Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman, and the fact that Batman Returns was my introduction to Selina Kyle - She obviously isn't the same Selina from the comics. But, it still was much more inspired than that abomination that Halle Berry starred in. The Catwoman? Movie? If thats what you'd want to call it - was a 10+ year project that was supposed to be a spin-off to Returns as Michelle Pfeiffer in the lead. Obviously after awhile they changed the entire plot to make up some bullsh*t about how "Patience Phillips" (seriously?!) was in a long line of Catwomen that Selina Kyle was a part of. And the whole supernatural element was a response to how Selina died 8 times in Batman Returns. And the whole cat scene after Max pushed her out of the window. Even though Tim Burton himself said it wasn't supernatural at all. At all.

Well, for Selina's true origins I would suggest reading Catwoman Annual #2, Batman: Year One, and this might be a controversial recommendation... but the graphic novel Catwoman: Her Sister's Keeper.

Not controversial at all. I'd recommend it over Batman: Year One for a straight Catwoman origin story.

I put together a small recommended reading order that helps understand where Catwoman comes from and how she got where she is today. They may not be the best Catwoman stories, per se, but they are the key points that got her where she is right now. How much of it will remain relevant in September is anyone's guess.

Catwoman Vol 1: 1-4 (Collected in Catwoman: Her Sister's Keeper)
Catwoman Vol 2: #0 and Annual #2 (these may not even be necessary)
Catwoman Vol 3: 12-16 (Collected in Catwoman: Relentless)
Baman: #608-619 (Collected in Batman: Hush)
Catwoman Vol 3: 50-52 (Not collected. That blows my mind)
Detective Comics: 846-850 (Collected in Batman: Heart of Hush)
    Catwoman Vol 3: #83 (Blackest Night Tie-in)
Gotham City Sirens: 12-13, 16-Current (12-13 and Catwoman Vol: 3 #83 collected in Gotham City Sirens: Songs of the Sirens)

For those that know better, I left Helena out on purpose. I don't suspect she'll ever be mentioned again.

Edit: Going to clean this up and make a new post with it. There seem to be a lot of new Catwoman fans popping out of the woodwork (sweet!) that may benefit from this. Having it buried on the 5th page of an appreciation thread might not give it enough visibility.

That's sad to say for some Huntress fans, I feel that she may be written out of the continuity.

See this is why I'm a complete and utter noob when it comes to the DCU. Huntress was the only Helena I knew.

Hahah its all good BadKitty, well Selina had a child with Bruce named Helena Wayne that grew up to be the Huntress in the Silver Age. In the current continuity Selina had a child named Helena Kyle (well Dubrovna... secret identity), but she gave her up for adoption because she didn't want to expose her to the dangers of being Catwoman's daughter. She was mentioned once (?) in Gotham City Sirens, maybe twice (?), but it seems likely it will be wiped out of continuity.

Hahah or probably a little bit of both, because thats how I feel about it. I deny that it happened and I ignore that she existed. Just kind of how I deny and ignore Kitrina as Catgirl. It's funny to me that Catwoman had a great supporting cast in Slam Bradley, Holly, and Karon... and we haven't heard from them in what, 2-3 years. But Tony Daniel had to create Kitrina as a supporting cast, which they ignored completely in GCS. Because to me she never existed, just a figment of Tony Daniel's imagination.

I actually liked Kitrina when she was first introduced. Nice to see Selina with a possible blood relative and I liked the nod to the Long Halloween/Dark Victory/When In Rome. She also had a much better outfit with the street waif look

But I agree with you what the hell was up with that neon pink costume?! and she seemed to take on a much more annoying personality too.

Anyway, I gladly tolerated her if it meant Catwoman would make an appearance in Daniel's book. I really liked how he wrote and drew her even though they were just cameos. Very classy sexy.

Well, just as Long Halloween, Dark Victory, and When in Rome aren't current continuity - but they are great stories... Catwoman has had a very... tense relationship with the Falcones for the past 23 odd years. I liked the idea of Kitrina, because Selina has a history of taking strays in, with Holly and Arizona, but I can't stomach the idea of a Catgirl. I think Catwoman should be solo, no "bad-girl" team, no side-kicks. She's not Batman. I liked how Brubaker wrote Holly as Catwoman ear to the pulse of the East End, but thats it. As far as Tony Daniel's take on Selina, its alright, though I much prefer Guillem March's Selina. And, it's quite clear Tony Daniel has no clear sense in costume design.

I mean I would rather keep this away from comics. Permanently.

They probably weren't before but Tony Daniel made them so. I don't mind Guillem's version, but I always thought he preferred drawing Poison Ivy. I just hope she gets a better wardrobe this time around; although I'm not hopeful since Winick's vision of her seems to be some homeless Macgyver thief.

Tony Daniel likes flashy stuff I think. I noticed that with his Peacock too.

Well, then I don't think Selina's part in the Halloween stories were brought in continuity, at least as far as Selina's origin is involved... Magdalene was still Selina's sister and was running around Gotham and has appeared since the re-introduction of the Falcones, Gilda Dent, etc.

I just think Guillem March is just a better artist. His style is much cleaner and easier on the senses.

When you say wardrobe are you talking about Selina, or Catwoman? Its already been stated their not changing the costume.
