But I don't think influence translates directly into having no originality.
Homage? Seemed more like lazy ass laziness to me. Rehash old material and pile on sleaze. Voila, nu52 Catwoman.

The infamous sex scene? Hasn't been done before - you might not like it, but that doesn't make it any less original.
You think that was original? LOL. Seemed like he copied it from some really bad fan fiction writer. Yes, he must really be so proud of that single contribution to the Catwoman mythos that made her the laughing stock of the Internet.

It's really interesting though, as his run was coming to an end - you could tell that it was getting watered down (probably by the DC Heads).
More like the adults at WB telling the Bat Office to take a cold shower given they had a movie to promote at the time. I can just imagine Chris Nolan's reaction to Winick's nu52 Catwoman.

It did seem more generic, and now it's turned in to... whatever Nocenti's doing. The only thing about Winick's run is that it doesn't feel complete. He was driving to something in Selina's past... and then Nocenti's Zero Issue happened - it was very anti-climactic.

I'm not saying I loved what Winick was doing, but I'd rather have influence from Brubaker, than the insanity that is Nocenti's run.
    I'll take Ann over Winick.

Judd was taken off the book in early July, about a week or so before TDKR hit the screens. Then in August, DC announced she would be in the JLA. Have a feeling that Geoff stepped in and gave Ann some points to cover in the zero issue. Wonder how much time she had to put it together. As for her subsequent stories, it's hit or very bad miss unfortunately. Have you listened to her interviews? I think she's a very smart lady but she's not all there.

I'm bothered less by the lack of originality than the excessive violence, bad pacing and worse attempts at using dramatic irony for humor and suspense. I mentioned how much I enjoyed the tonal shifts in Brubaker's writing, but in Winick's those shifts were so sudden and extreme they were tiresome when they should have been engaging. (Seriously, I never understood why a woman's shocked expression would be considered porn-y before the Winnick/March issues.) The sex scene and (especially) murdering Lola were poorly placed plot points, created for the sake of early shock, but not really giving the story anywhere to go. He also frequently used narration boxes to have Selina explain "this is how things are" only to have it proved wrong immediately after. I think he was going for humor or building suspense, but it made her look stupid.

The zero issue, what ever it was, in retrospect seems more about setting up her JLA connection. I won't way that Nocenti didn't get off to a rough start (though knowing how DOTF turned out I wonder if that affects how the tie in issues read now, she did foreshadow a lot of the climax) but I like most of what she has brought to the title. She has a good sense of the world out side Selina that reflects her inner world well. She has gone nine issues without killing any of the supporting characters, which I really appreciate. Her plots don't have much structure, but I think that really fits the character.
