There are some great stories. I would say it's not as good as his Peter PArker run, but it is great still. The Venom and Doc Ock stories are very good. The Lizard one not so much, I also didn't like the art that much. The Avengers Dissasembled stories are not good in my opinion. All the one shot stories and the last one are the best in the series. The Sins Past story is... well, as a story based on a horrible story it's good, though people might asking for my adress to kill me when they see this comment. I would say go for it, if the price is good.

Thanks for the info. I'll probably pick up the first 1 or 2 and go from there.

Although I did notice some Mark Buckingham (whom I love!) art in the last volume. Decisions, decisions...

The thread is around, although I got rid of the voting part, as there was a lack of interest in that aspect.

I stopped reading ASM shortly after Brand New Day started. I was not a fan of the "deal" and it came about around the same time my local shop closed down. I had a subscription for a little while after but dropped it due to loosing interest. Anyway, long story short, I've started reading some comics again and wanted to pick up with a familiar character that I've grown to miss. So I'm going to start with ASM again. Anything in particular that I need to read to get any major story points? I'm not sure what the last issue of ASM I read was but it wasn't long after Brand New Day started. I just don't want to be too confused when I start reading ASM again. Thanks for the help!

pick up the trade for Big Time and then get 682 to current (685) for Ends of the Earth.

If you like Big Time and enjoy the new Ends of the Earth... check out the trade for Spider Island.

Hey all I am completely new to reading comics (I literally started last week lol)I have already started reading Scarlet Spider, which I love by the way, and have picked up ASM starting with Ends of the Earth. I looked up the basically the cliff notes to what I have missed as my only real Spider-man knowledge is from the 90's tv show. I'm wondering what are some of the best stories from the past few years you guys would recommend reading? Also, is Carnage USA any good? I was a huge fan of Carnage growing up and I'd love to read some stories with him. Thanks.

Exclamation What is the best Spider Man comic to start off reading?

Hi everyone. I have recently been getting into the idea of the spiderman comics. I have no comic book stores in a ten mile radius of me so I would prefer to buy my comics off amazon and ebay. What is a good series to start off with? I just ordered spiderman 26 The giant sized 30th anniversary one. I know a bit about spiderman from marvel wikia etc... Is spiderman 26 a good issue to start with? and if not what are some recommendations?
    Thanks, guys (:

I would start with the early works of Lee,Ditko and Romita Sr, you can get the "Essentials" for a decent price too.

Why should I want to make anything up? Life's bad enough as it is without trying to invent any more of it.

Actually, Amazing Spider-Man #365 would be a better 30th anniversary issue / introduction - fantastic Lizard battle, a Prowler story, a Gwendolyn Stacy story done by Stan Lee & Johnny Romita Sr, two essays - one on Spider-Man's first thirty years, and the other on Peter Parker's parents, a brief but tasteful preview of Spider-Man 2099, and a Spider-Man / Venom / Carnage poster!

That one's art - by Alex Saviuk - is often a bit flat, especially when comparing between his and Amazing's Mark Bagley around the time - but it does have quite the masterfully menacing representation of Mysterio, being a true "Master of Illusion" in that one.

yeah i just looked up some of alex saviuk's work looks pretty dated compared to Bagley. Would you recommend the 2099 series? the premise really interests me.

Looks neat from all I've heard / seen from it - but the most part - not a Spider-Man 2099 reader myself - but hey - that's just personal tastes.

I say, try it out - maybe a couple issues or three at first, to see if you like them - I'm sure, even if you don't have a comicbookstore in your area, how about flea markets or second hand bookstores? Because I'm sure by now, since that series had long started and ended during the nineties, they're probably in the the dollar bin territory.
