does anyone know if DC has ever tried to do any Harry Potter comics since Warner Bros has the film rights to the franchise? seems like a good way to generate some sales and give Marvel a little kick in the nuts.

Warner have the rights to the movie franchise. Literary rights, trademarks and copyright are less well defined. Rowling and Bloomberg still owns the franchise effectively and things happen according to her say so. She said no to comics. Basically Warner have the rights to any film potential, everything else still lies with the writer and original publisher.

I really doubt that Rowling would say yes to a Harry Potter comics for being honest.

Hahaha that's the exact same thing that I thought when I read this. They're really coming off as a bit desperate lately. Virtually every business move Marvel makes, DC does the equivalent within a couple of years. Marvel Studios=DCE, Disney buyout=WB reintegrating them, Marvel offices in California=DC offices in California.

If she was interested by that it would have been done for years now.

You can be pretty sure that a lot of people already asked her.

Why would she say yes now ?

Plus Rowling doesn't seem to be the kind of person who would really appreciate that other writers mess around with her universe.

Yeah, not unless it was a comic book adaptation of the books or something.

Right now, she doesn't want anyone else messing in her universe.

Rowling is pretty protective of Harry Potter and his universe.

And, she doesn't need the money brought by comic book licensing... she could make much more from other avenues that are passive sources of income (like Harry Potter replica wands that cost $100)

    You're really not that informed.

    1. Disney buying Marvel and Warner Brothers wanting to consolidate DC into it's fold by creating DC Entertainment, were both in the development at the same time. It was not the case of one trying to copy the other, though if you want to play that one, then you need to check your facts. Warner Brothers and DC were both bought by a separate company in the late 60's. When that company folded, Warner became the dominant force again and held on to DC. Thus Disney buying Marvel is more of a copycat move to imitate DC/WB, than the other way around.

    2. Disney bought Marvel to exploit it's own weakness, which is appealing to young boys under eighteen, who could give a rats ass about what Disney puts out. The last time they did was with Ducktales, Rescue Rangers and Darkwing Duck. Warner has had to face the option of crapping or getting off the pot regarding DC, which everyone has criticized them for not doing. Hence we're gaining forward movement on something that's not Superman or Batman and not Vertigo.

    3. Marvel created Marvel Studios years ago, because no one studio wanted to work with them. So they developed television and film deals on their own, eventually deciding to produce their own in-house. Warner, on the other hand, is a movie and television studio. Hence they've owned all DC properties and all film and television rights. They may have lent them out to be financed independently, like the Superman films, but they've always had a single home. Swamp Thing may have been made Universal, but only after WB passed on it. All DC Entertainment does is allow WB to finally make film and television series, which if you've paid attention, they haven't really done so.

    4. Having film and television offices, among other things out in LA only makes sense.
