Have any of you read The Marquis: Inferno TPB or A God Somewhere? I just heard about the latter from Scott Allie in the back of New World #2 I think. The reviews for both seem to be good but I though I'd ask for opinions here.

The Marquis is the best monster comic ever published, and one of the best old-school superhero comics of all time. It's stupendous.
Strangebeard: It's not the size of the pirate in the fight, but the size of the fight in the pirate.
Hmmm, I'm sitting here scratching my head trying to figure out how and in what way Marquis is "old-school superhero". Since the titular character doesn't seem to hew closely to the conventions of a superhero comic and instead seems more the man doomed to see that which no one else can- seeing demons in every corner (real or imagined??), perhaps you can expand upon your thought Kelly.
He's basically The Shadow, only instead of battling mobsters in the roaring Twenties he's blasting demons in 17th-century Venisalle. The affectations of the old pulp superheroes are all there, but Guy puts his twists on them and makes them feel new again.

I liked The Marquis: Inferno, but it suffered from a lot of restating exposition. Obviously this was because of the way it was originally published and a necessary evil, but I look forward to The Marquis and the Midwife which should be free of such restrictions. Plus, stories always get more interesting after all the character introductions and world-establishing stuff is done (unless of course the author is one of those people that mistakenly thinks world-building is all there is to writing).
I should check out A God Somewhere, but I won't unless my local library gets it in. The Mignolaverse is so big now, it's really all I can afford!
Since no one has raved about A God Somewhere yet I guess I'll take the burden onto my own shoulders.
It's a must read, if you want to see the superhero genre turned on its head in a way that does not rip off Alan Moore or Frank Miller be sure to pick it up. Peter Snejberg's art is simply wonderful, he does not pull back, he will make you cringe without it feeling tasteless. And let me get around to John Arcudi's writing, We've seen him build such great characters in BPRD, now we know that he is more than capable of tearing them apart.
Long story short read it now.
when can we get out marquis sequel!!!
northlanders .american vampire. bprd. concrete. detective comics.
If you follow Guy Davis on Twitter (Right here, actually) then he often posts that he's been working on The Marquis and the Midwife between B.P.R.D. pages.

I know this is an old thread but I just thought I'd follow up a bit. I got A God Somewhere a couple of days ago from tfaw.com. I started reading it last night and couldn't put it down. I got through the whole thing in one sitting. If anyone hasn't read it yet, I highly recommend it. Thanks to Misters Arcudi and Snejberg for a great book.
The Marquis is excellent. Definitely pick that up.
I've heard a lot of great things about ...a god somewhere, but I haven't actually read it yet. The softcover tpb is coming out this September, so I may pick it up then.
A God Somewhere really showcases John Arcudi's brilliant character work.
