It was very satisfying to see Tsukishima get a hole blasted through his torso. Then it was ruined by being a standard Bleach injury.
Not caring about injuries means that he's kind of insane. Not that he can't fight. Hell, it pretty obvious that he knows how to fight. It's the only thing he does.

Eh. The fact that Kenpachi is mostly self-taught and has a very unconventional style doesn't mean he's not a really good swordsman. Especially since he's just taking hits because he thinks it's fun.
Heck, Ichigo hasn't had any formal training either; he had to figure out how to use a sword while fending off Urahara and after that he just kept learning by experience.

Kenpachi's kendo is probably untrained; in terms of his normal swordsmanship, he jumps at the opportunity to use it, especially in life or death situations, at any opportunity available. When he did pull out his kendo, he used it without any problems to pretty much stomp someone that was able to match him in normal combat.
OTOH, his power and speed are sufficient that he probably rarely runs into anyone that actually makes him exert himself significantly.

that's essentially the point i'm making: Kenny has the power, but in terms of skill he's barely as good as a muggle kendo student. He almost never uses it, shows no signs of keeping his training up or desiring improvement, and has very little experience using it in a combat situation.
He know how to fight a sword as in he knows how and where to hit people with a sword. And his fighting instincts are among the best in the series. That puts him a bit above "barely passable legitimate swordsmanship" I'd say, and certainly much better than swinging his sword "wildly at whatever".
