You might have a problem with the Elder Scrolls games then. Captured souls is how one creates and powers magical equipment. It's literally possible to kill a person and turn his or her soul into an enchanted bow or something.
I always thought that was kinda messed up.

Come to think of it, it's also possible to kill ghosts. Like, physically, with a sword. Wonder how that works, metaphysically speaking. oO
Of course, nothing beats the necromancer in Skyrim who'd summon the ghosts of young girls and was heavily implied to brainwash them into sex slaves. That was pretty damn dark.

Over 1000 dead in under 7 minutes.
This isn't a war. This is a massacre.

So Kira may be dead along some other characters I had never seen before.
That's fine. I never liked Kira and his flower.
This is why they didn't bring the cannon fodder to fight Aizen and the Espada. They would make Soul Society look bad by dying like flies.
I see a cute girl in the super-quincy elite ranks. And I wonder what gender the person with spikes on his/her mask is.
Well they tend to leave behind ectoplasm, so I'm guessing you just disrupt their pseudo-physical body. And don't you generally need an enchanted or silver weapon to do so?
Also, I think that that necromancer was heavily implied to control female Draguar into being sex slaves before he figured out how to enslave the ghosts of the women he kills.
Yeah.

Oh noes, Kira may be dead. If only there was one or more characters with the ability to turn back time, who explicitly used that power to bring back a couple of killed shinigami with it, and that Kira had left behind enough of his body that there shouldn't be any real problem for that person to use their power on him.
Oh noooooeeeesssss......

Try as I may, I can't get myself excited for this arc. For some reason the Vandereih just... oozes lameness.
Maybe it's because I get the feeling that Kubo is desperate to hype them up very quickly...

It's actually very logical.
It's called the 'Then what?' syndrome.
Basically after a certain point in the storyline, like say a dramatic battle that ended with a planet destroyed (Frieza vs Goku), or say the main character reaching unheard of power levels and fighting with that one villain (Ichigo vs Aizen), you start to wonder what can challenge the good guys.
Amusingly enough DBZ did good at making their villains feel like a threat despite endless power ups.
Anyway the point is, after a time you start to wonder why these guys are even a challenge to the good guys. Like what have they done to compare themselves to Good Guy. In your mind the main characters have gone from the being the underdogs you fear for to being the Reigning champion of the ring with no equal.
It's the writer's job to, well, sell the threat of the new villains but how well that works depends on the person.
tl;dr: Aizen vs Ichigo raised the bar very high. You're doing a conscious or subconscious comparison and find the villains lacking that regard.
To me it happens a lot with Batman, which is why I can't take certain story lines seriously.
THANK YOU. I was really tempted to make a post that was in this line of thought but let it go. There's just nothing going on here that I am remotely into in any positive way.
But with Aizen being on lock down and Ichigo no longer using the mugetsu stuff then there's no need for the bar to be there anymore. Until that kinda power gets tossed around they are still outlier one-shot powerups.
It's just.....the only dramatic tension I'm feeling for Bleach right now is my mentioned fear that souls that are in their afterlife might be irrevocably destroyed. It's the same problem I had in Marvel Zombies with Sentry eating Heaven.
Hollows eating Ghost is one thing, he's got swords and can fight back. But when the bad guys are attacking what I consider to be "base" in a game of hide and go seek? That bothers me.
Once you make it to certain places ie: the afterlife / Heaven, an inn, elevators, or even a tent in certain games then there should be NO MORE RANDOM ENCOUNTERS.
Is all I'm saying.

Transient just likes to do that.
Why he keeps picking up ridiculous arguments and then try to defend them, I will never know.
...Holy crap, does Soul Society really need to get their act together quick before this gets way more nasty than it is going at the moment. O_o
