Cool Static Shock - The Forum

Growing up, Static Shock (TAS) has seemed to be my gateway into comics and superheroes. I have been rewatching episodes on YouTube and have fallen inlove with the series once again. There may be flaws but the realistic fantasy idea of the abandoned gas station HQ wins me over. So, post anything Static related here. Comics or the show or the upcoming 2011 Static series, etc. I wrote a fan cast a while ago so here it is (if it were a movie)...

Virgil Hawkins/Static - Tyler James Williams
    Frieda Goren - Shailene Woodley
Richie Foley (future Gear) - Martin Spanjers
Adam Evans (future Rubberband Man) - Lee Thompson Young
    Sharon Hawkins - Kyla Pratt
    Robert Hawkins - Tyler Perry
Francis Stone/Hot Streak (ideal main villain) - Kyle Gallner

Haha; I thought he had the basic look and vibe plus a lot of other fans casted him for that role as well.

Wasn't there a Static appreciation thread already lol?

Anywho, I hope that the new series does very well. I'm nervous because the original comic series dealt issues regarding race, class, sex, sexual orientation, etc., and I wonder if the new run will also deal with these same issues in the same manner.

Also, can we please see Ebon and the Meta-Breed cross over into comics? He was my favorite villain from the show and I think he could make a great comic villain for the Static and also for others. I hope we don't see Holocaust for a little bit. He's been overused way too much in the past two years, showing up in Teen Titans, the Brave and the Bold, and Milestone Forever. Let some other villains get some shine instead of him.

I really hope this series does well, because after seeing him in the cartoon I've grown to like him and his storyline very much. Lets hope that this all works out!

Like I said, I grew up with the cartoon so I really hope they put in those villains you listed too. I hope Hot Streak gets in as well. And since I grew up with the cartoon and didn't know of a previous comic series until two years ago, (been researching it more lately) I pray that this new series can be more serious and down to earth than saying don't bully or be whatever sexual orientation you want. I'm not sure if you meant that these comics should keep in that stuff but I hope not. Once in a while with it not being the main point of the issue is fine but this series doesn't really go out to kids I think. I'm a teenager and I think my age will be he youngest reading the series but I already know those "lessons" it teaches. From what I read on some website, it seemed that Rick (Stone) was made a HUGE deal out of when he came out and then I read that the last issue had Virgil and the gang went to a gay rights rally which I thought was VERY offensive to some people and it just didn't fit the vibe of Static with me. Anyways, that's just me...

What did you find to be so offensive?

Actually it wasn't that offensive to me but some old friends of mine I told about that Gear is based off a gay character thing (they grew up with the cartoon too) and that Gear was suppose to be gay was just a shock to them I guess. One of them said that they didn't like how the comic made it seem like a given fact that you can be any sexuality you want. I was a little offended from it as well when my friend said that "if you can be any sexual orientation you want then you can also be any religion." Which I guess to my friend (he's a guy on here that introduced me to CBR so I'm keeping him anonymous since I know he'd get hate for that). So I think he just meant they were contradicting themselves or that the religion meant to be true in that universe was supposed to be very liberal and the guy I told is very non-liberal. But back to the subject, if you want to make a thread on the matter there's a forum for it...

I thought the show was good. I've heard that the writer of the new series had a really bad run on Teen Titans. I'll probably look into the first issue and see.

If it's the same writer I'm thinking of, I have the first issue of TT he did and it wasn't that good but he got Static right. And guess who saved the whole team? *obviously you know who

Maybe Donald Glover could be Static in the future or something? Tyler could play him in flashbacks. David is mid 20's but I think I read he was short so he could play a college student instead of a high school student. Or just (again) be him in the future. How about Courtney B Vance or the guy that played Charles in the 5th season of The Office for Robert instead? Might be he same guy (can barely remember how he looked)... I couldn't find the guy who played Charles.
