Default CBR: FAN EXPO: DC Nation Panel

Dan DiDio led a DC Nation panel that included Chris Sprouse, Jeff Lemire, Brian Azzarello, and more as they discussed events in "Batman" and "Brightest Day" and teased what may be Andy Kubert's next project.

Offering another anecdote of his early days with DC, DiDio recalled seeing a panel from “Countdown to Infinite Crisis” where the Blue Beetle looks at Wonder Woman and says, “She’s perfect”.

“Where do you go from there? How do you change the character? How do you make anything that can draw readers’ attention? That’s one of the problems with putting a character on a pedestal -- when everything they do is perfect it makes it very hard to tell stories as creators,” said DiDio.
Yeah, gotta agree with Didio here. Perfect, at equilibrium characters are hard to write stories for. Their stories tend to be about the people around them.

Not sure the JMS treatment is the right way to go, though. Caldwell's treat, while it has its problems, has the virtue of substituting enthusiasm for maturity, which, I think works...

When did Arthur change the spelling of his last name from Curry to "Currie"?

I don't think there's ever meant to be news at the FanExpo panels. That's what San Diego is for, though DC did drop the ball there too.

Though a Damian mini would be cool.

I don't know, regardless of his editorial decisions, I've seen people describe DiDio as charismatic for a long time now.

Seems like a hint for Batman 666 mini?

After explaining that, in the wake of “Blackest Night,” characters who are killed will absolutely remain dead, DiDio referenced making Kid Devil the first martyr of the post-”Blackest Night” DCU. Put simply, he’s dead and not coming back.
    Thank goodness.

I'm guessing you've never seen Dan Didio in person. Having been to DC panels run by Dan Didio and DC panels run by Ian Sattler, there is a *huge* difference in the level of energy. If there's one thing Didio knows, it's how to work a crowd.

I've never been to a panel spearheaded Sattler, but I've been to four hosted by DiDio and can attest to the fact that the guy is extremely personable and engaging. Say what you will about his editorial decisions, but his people skills are undeniable.

My issue there is, it seems like Didio is talking about a mini WRITTEN, rather than DRAWN, by Andy Kubert, since we already know that Andy Kubert is drawing Flashpoint and it seems unlikely that he's capable of doing both.

I'd love a Batman 666 mini, but how about Paul Cornell on it, someone with a real knack for that time of creativity?
