If you are following the X-Men: Curse of the Mutants story, you should read this book. It isnít necessarily required reading for Gischlerís X-men, but it is a great story, so far, that advances Gischlerís plot.
As we have seen in X-men, Cyclops wants Draculaís head. That job has fallen on Namor. The issue begins will a mysterious old Atlantean woman informing Namor all about the legendary Aqueos aka underwater vampires. Namor has a feeling that they may have Draculaís head. When he gets home tragedy has struck Atlantis, so Namor must round up a posse to defend his land. The posse he rounds up is not so willing. They think he has only caused Atlantis trouble and that he is now only serving the X-men. He tells them not to fight for him but to fight for revenge. They go on their mission, and I donít want to say too much, but they go deep in the sea and find what they are looking for but not without a battle.
No other X-man appears in the issue, but their presence is felt. Namor's soldiers remind us several times that they are on their mission for the X-men, not Atlantis, even though it will help them too.
I really liked this issue. I would give it at least an 8/10. The art was great. Olivetti does wonderful work with the underwater scenes. Like most of his art, the backgrounds arenít very detailed, but they donít have to be, because the characters tell the story. Mooreís story is very well done. His narration boxes hooked me from the beginning and kept me all the way through. I would recommend this to anyone who isnít strongly opposed to Namor, especially those following Gishlerís X-men book.
