Urgh... it's stuff like that why I can never get into comics based on TV shows.Spike appeared in BUFFY in a spaceship accompanied by giant alien bugs
It's like the moment the writers are not bound by the budget of a weekly TV series they come up with the most ridicolous ideas possible.
Hopefully Dark Horse will get the publishing rights to the trades & help to actually bring out the paperbacks, which are woefully slow in coming out (probably so they can sell more hardbacks at a higher price).
The Buffy books have a great turnaround on comics to TPB, but IDW with Angel is well over a year (maybe even 2) behind.

Since IDW doesn't have to publish new material maybe the collections will come out faster.

I'm starting to wonder if Dark Horse can actually pull this off or not.

Is the entire Angelverse (including the Spike book and any future minis) going to Dark Horse, or just the Angel series?
