Peter David, back in his '90s X-Factor run, actually explained it quite well. Quicksilver was talking to Doc Samson, and he told Samson to imagine standing in line. The slowest-moving line ever. That's life for a speedster. Everyone else just moves so damn slow. I think it was a Quicksilver ongoing had him at dinner with the Inhumans, and his inner monologue had him state that he was taking his time with the food, chewing each bite thoroughly before swallowing, and just striving not to finish before everyone else. And then it showed everyone staring at him, because he was already finished, and they'd barely started. So then he sat waiting for everyone else. And three or four panels went by of him fidgeting, while on the edge of the panel, Crystal didn't seem to be moving at all.
Basically, speedsters are jerks because the entire rest of the world is too slow.
Yeah I remember that, great explanation. And i thought it didn't get enough play, because if his life is really that fast, you'd expect him to do something interesting with it... like, I dunno, I'd expect him to speak every language or something. Be really good at strategy or math or something... but not so much. In fact despite the fact that he's clearly always moving really slowly, he's also really impulsive... basically he's a real disappointment. :(
At one point he learned to play the piano at superspeed. That was kind of what I was thinking of.
Anyway it's not all Speedsters it's just Pietro and maybe Speed have the problem of not being able to turn their powers off. Northstar seems to be able to.
I don't know if Northstar can turn it off, either. He's just been mellowing out a bit lately because of Kyle. And I must say, I'm glad Liu is making that relationship so prominent over in Astonishing. It's actually the only same-sex couple appearing in an ongoing Marvel series. Maybe Karma could get a girlfriend, too. And, of course, I really hope that here in AA, Rainbow Slash pops up fairly regularly. Because it's just always nice to see same-sex relationships get some page time.
But yeah. Marvel's speedsters are mostly jerks.
As for Quicksilver learning stuff at superspeed, yeah, he probably should have a bizarre range of knowledge. That might be a fun way to write him, actually, as this weird trivia buff because of how many books he's read at superspeed. Something else he did in the old X-Factor.
Maybe he's like the Flash: He can learn at superspeed, but it fades away after time.
I would like to see Quicksilver leave the Academy in the aftermath of Avengers vs X-men, because it would be interesting to have reveal to the world that it was Magneto's children that caused M-day.![]()
Time to enjoy (especially SLG....)these Preview Pages for Issue #30 @ .....

Nice. I like how the "flashback" panel is done in the Byrne style - very nice touch. It honestly looks like it could've been lifted straight from one of his comics.
Also, Herc's still got his sword and shield. Yay! That ongoing of his got canceled entirely too soon.
I'm looking forward to that issue, as always.
The reason I thought northstar didn't have this restriction was that at one point Magneto said his kid is faster, and he's really not... someone explained it as Northstar is faster but doesn't have the reaction time because he has to turn his powers on/off, hence in close-quarters he's not that fast. But it may all be BS. Anyway I've never seen him do mundane things at superspeed... but then I didn't read Alpha Flight. He IS a jerk but I assumed that was because he's always had issues... wasn't he a violent Quebec separatist at one point or a terrorist or something?
I don't really like Kyle, tbh. I just find him not very interesting... but it just takes one good story to change my mind. Not that I mind same-sex relationships but this one (and Wiccan/Hulking) is just grating to me... I like Rictor/Shatterstar in X-Factor though, and Rainbow Slash (I love that name lol)...
Why would they, even the X-Men and X-Factor didn't want to? Quicksilver's kind of grating but I love him with Finesse so I don't want him to leave.Originally Posted by CMBMOOL
If anything makes him leave it should probably be the whole starting-a-war-and-lying-about-it thing. That kind of got forgotten.
Wow, that is excelent. Three pages that were more thought provoking and that left me more excited than anything I've seen from this "event". Heroes actually behaving like heroes, able to set their differences aside and work together in the face of a Crisis. What an unheard of concept, nowadays. Plus, Gage NEEDS to add Hercules permnently to the staff. The Lion of Olympus is such a great character to be left in limbo or at the hand of lesser writers. Kudos, Mr. Gage. Marvel really should wise up and put you in charge of the whole Avengers franchise. I, for one, would be a happy camper.
Peace
Stryker hasn't been made an Avenger yet. But I'd love to see an Avengers mission squad compromissed of Quicksilver, US Agent, Namor and Moondragon. I wonder if they'd kill each other before completing the mission or if they wait untill afterwards? (The killing each other part is a given, of course.)
Peace
