There's too many storylines in Astro City to try adapting them to just one movie. In my opinion, they should go with "The Confessor" one first, since it basically shows the city and its inhabitants from the POV of a young man who came to the city *specifically* to be a superhero. It would both introduce the AC elements in a believable fashion AND help the audience bond with the main character.

Judging just by what Busiek said on the subject, It looks like it's possible the film may take an Altmanesque approach of several smaller stories that interweave and eventually converge, which would certainly be a more interesting approach than a straight adaptation of one the book's storylines.

Of course I could be wrong and then again, there's no guarantee yet the film will even get made.

Agreed. I think that the Confessions story-arc would make the most sense for a cinema going audience as a first introduction to the world of AC. Of course, other fundamental aspects of Astro City's history, such as the Silver Agent's fate for instance could certainly be hinted at within the story, ready to be developed in any sequels that may appear.

Still, I'm inclined to agree with pariah-1972 that Astro City would be a very hard thing to successfully adapt.

Particularly since the prospect of an Astro City film is something that has been bandied about since the late 1990s.

Meh, I could go either way on a Confessions storyline for the movie. On the one hand it's a coming of age/common man story intertwined with the fantastic backdrop of Astro City. And on the other, the trick reveal is... Vampires! Which was really interesting when it was written, but the timing with all the current Twilight and Tru Blood crap couldn't be worse. Regular movie goers might run the risk of dismissing it as a movie trying to blend two popular genres in one movie, of populist opportunism instead of being a good story.
