    Default Avengers Prime #2 *Spoilers*

    Spoiler

    spoilers:
The issue starts off were the last issue left off with Amora the Enchantress attacking and blaming Thor for actions we the reader is not aware of yet. Thor has little patience for her even thou he hasn’t seen her since the last Ragnarok.

Ironman is still trying to repair his armor when trolls(?) surround him. Tony asked some questions that suppose to be humorous. Once Tony mentioned Lord Thor a troll knocked him out.
Captain Steve is still fighting Dark Elves. Once that was over, he came across a pretty Elvin woman that wanted to treat his wounds.

Tony was brought to a shape shifting dragon Thor had killed once before.

Cap is getting closer with the elf woman who reminds him of Wanda. He tells her how he regret not being able to help her and how he is now bickering with his “brothers”. He doesn’t know why he is telling her all this but she tells him she is an empath.

Then the three stories start to enter twine so the main plot could be exposed. It all comes down to Asgard being on Earth witch effect the other seven worlds. The Dragon and the Enchantress blame Odin, Loki and mainly Thor for causing an unbalance to the natural order.
It seems that the other worlds are on the same plane and now under the control of Hela and she still wants Thor soul.
    end of spoilers

    Review

Until the last page I was digging this mini because it was finally explaining what happened to the other six Regions of Asgard. We knew that Asgard city is now on Midgard and Hel is now a small part of Mephisto’s Hell but JMS never bother to worry about the other parts.
It just seems that Bendis or mainly the editor doesn’t care about what’s going on in other books. spoilers:
But Thor is a major book that is dealing with Hel and how she didn’t have a realm and that storyline started in Loki siege book.
end of spoilers The connection is just not there and Marvel is dropping the ball. Hopefully this will be address in the next issue even though this story must take place before the current storyline in Thor.

Bendis dialogue was decent but his humor can be real corny sometimes especially with Tony. Amora was a tad too evil here with her monster minions. I hope Bendis explains why she is here and not reborn on Earth with the other gods.

Davis is a saving grace for this book and I will always be a big fan. His Thor is powerful and his Steve is agile and handsome. His Tony and Amora could use some work though. I didn’t like her face in some panels and Tony’s armor just came off as flat.

I read a lot of the thor books that took place in the late 90's and into ragnarok, and have been wondering what the deal was with enchantress. She was never portrayed as a good person, but even up until ragnarok they were close and Thor even has memories of being married to her and raising a son. I was hoping these books would fill in various gaps JMS ignored in his run.

This was a very enjoyable issue, wish it came out more regulary though. The art is fantastic, and the writing is even better.

I have to say this was a solid 8 in my book. And it's the best Avengers book coming out right now because it feels classic in both story and art. It just has that Avengers feel about it and really has me looking forward to Avengers Three.

This would have rated higher to me if it didn't contradict with what's going on in Thor's main title when it comes to Hela.

Moose, I agree. This is a well written "Roy Thomas Epic" or as close as I've seen since coming back to comics. Someone said having just the Big Three allows for greater character development, and I think that is the tale here. Bendis does a solid job especially with Steve. I enjoyed the Enchantress too. Problem is this comes out so infrequently that Bendis' Stark hasn't really hit the ground running. Still, BMB is writing this epic well and I'm certainly willing to wait on how his Tony turns out. I suspect we'll be pleasantly suprised.

This is a helluva title and with a monthly status, keeping Davis and Farmer on board, and perhaps adding Hank Pym, this could definitely be the flagship title. It would be a title focussing on character development, not just a gaggle of heroes.

Hmm...Sounds good! I like the fact that Bendis is using Enchantress to her full villain potential. I'll give this a try!

I thought this was a fun issue - swashbuckling steve Rogers is awesome, Stark gets put through the ringer he (still) deserves a bit longer, and Thor gets the badass scene at the end.

The only thing that didn't sit right with me was the same stuff that's bothering the OP - Thor is allied with Hela in a book that came out last week, these series are tripping over one another. I know Bendis is a big deal & everything, but isn't standard practice to check with the main book if you're going to borrow their characters?

Well, here is where timelines get complicated. Have to keep in mind that events of this book will be further behind other books by every issue given. Correct me if wrong, but this is supposed to be the gap between Siege and launch of new Avenger series. While others move along with speed that they somewhat can choose this book last issue end time is already set.

So in other words, events of this book might lead to the alliance you mentioned.

Besides SA, this comic was probably the most solid release since the Avengers relaunch. Fantastic art and great pacing.

That said the Hela reveal was really jarring. She's had a lot of recent history in marvel titles including being in the current Thor and X-factor arcs not to mention the Siege tie-ins. Her portrayal and situation here just doesn't gel with what's been done with the character recently.

    But otherwise a good book.

I agree with OP and others that the lack of continuity between titles is jarring.

Enchantress... I could have sworn that when Thor was reviving the gods, there was one page where he said that he didn't want to revive villains (Loki was an accident), and another where we see Enchantress (or Karnilla? But I thought it was Enchantress) standing presumably on Earth somewhere, with the implication that she got away on her own without Thor's help. This is old continuity by the time Siege rolled around, too...

Also I'm usually a Stark fan but under Bendis he just seems to fall flat. He sounds kinda like Spiderman, but 10 years older. That's just sad.

I really wanted to like this book but...

Yeah... no. The explanation in the Thor book about Hela not having any realm at all other than her digs in Las Vegas, and that being why she and Loki needed to make a deal with Mephisto for new territory to call Hel, goes back to before Siege. So, right after Siege, what's shown in Prime is not the established situation.

Also, we've recently seen Svartalfheim in Incredible Hercules after Asgard had been on Earth for a good while, and the Dark Elves and their realm were just fine. Preparing to invade Midgard, as a matter of fact, until Herc romanced their queen.

    Sorry, they done messed up.

Yeah, Amora should be loose on Midgard somewhere, not stuck elsewhere in the Nine. Plus, she made an attempt to bring back Skurge in a recent annual, which would mean Thor has seen her, and that annual was never stated to be out of continuity.

I wish Davis was a regular Artist on an Avengers ongoing. I've always liked his work.
