Baltimore:The Plague Ships

Just to let y'all know..the trade paperback that was released on Wednesday,is sold out...not sure if there will be a second printing,just wanted to let you folks know.

I read that yeah the are doing a second printing, I forget where I read it. DH digital? DH facebook page?

But reading that its been selling out made me get off my butt and go out and get it today. And I got the last copy at my LCS.

My ONLY complaint is that the hard cover doesn't have Mignola's art on it, it has one of those dust covers of Mikes cover but the actual book is a clean black face. The dust covers get so damaged I always end up taking them off so that disappoints me a bit. I would have preferred the art being printed on the cover like Screw on Head HC was but thats just nit picking.

I specifically like the sepia toned pages for the sketchbook and title pages and chapters. Nice old fashioned touch.

Glad I pre-ordered mine Amazon. It's getting ready to ship, that's two weeks earlier than they had it originally!

I've been trade waiting so I'm very much looking forward to getting it.

Our local shop got one in and I got it. Now it's out of print. Damn I'm glad i decided to go ahead and order it months ago, this series is awesome and I'm really looking forward to the new Baltimore series thats coming out in a couple months.

I picked up my copy of the hardcover yesterday. It's a beautiful book. There are great sketchbook pages by Ben Stenbeck, a mechanical drawing of Baltimore's leg by Mignola and a couple of great pin-up pages.

Edit: There is also a really great introduction by Joe Hill.

I'm looking forward to the Curse Bells, too. The Plague Ships had to revisit much of the material in the original novel but the new story will be all new material. Can't wait!

It was interesting seeing parts of the story from the novel drawn and it makes sense to introduce people who hadn't read the novel to Baltimore and his story. However I'm with Gary on looking forward to Curse Bells being a completely new story.

Also anyone who read the novel should check this book out. You won't be disappointed. It's another dark gothic tale that is extremely well written.

My copy arrived in the mail yesterday. It's a really nice volume. Also finished Baltimore, or, The Steadfast Tin Soldier and the Vampire. It was not at all what I was expecting, which turned out to be a very good thing.

Got my copy last week... I wonder why they jumped straight to the HC instead of doing a softcover?

I think it's to make it match the look of the novel, so they seem to belong to the same set.

My copy of the hardcover came in the mail Saturday but I just got around to reading it today, and it was pretty fun. I think what I liked the most about it was that Mignola finally got to tell the fungus monster story that he's wanted to do since the Island, I smiled as soon as I saw the fungus growing from the ship as I immediately knew what was going to follow. I sincerely hope he got as big of a kick out of finally actualizing that story as I did.

On the whole, although it was a fun story I found that it lacked much of the complexity of the novel. While the novel had a variety perspectives and was largely character driven the Plague Ships was a rather straight forward action piece. It was fun but it never really made me pause and really think about what was happening in the way the Steadfast Tin Soldier did. Still, I really love the character and the world he lives in so I'm pretty excited to get my hands on the next collection.
