I'm not sure. I think they might make Tony the Director of SHIELD in later movies when he gets a bit too old.

I never think of superhero movies really going past 3 films in a particular incarnation then I thik it's time for a reboot. I think Spider-man needed a reboot after 3 movies, X-Men, Superman, Batman, etc.,etc....The ones that go past 3 without a reboot usually end up with a really bad movie. But with the Marvel movies I'm torn. I'd like to see another AVENGERS movie with this cast but it's hard to say if I'll want to see a 4th IRON MAN movie if the 3rd isn't alot better than the second. Also to consider that there might not be a need to reboot if they keep doing them right. All the movies I named that got rebooted actually needed to be because they stopped working or lost focus but it's possible Marvel could do 5 good movies in a row...I guess.
As far as actors go only RDJ is really the only star big enough to be a problem with being so identified to the character, getting too old too soon to pull it off and have the clout to would walk away from a major franchise.
It will be interesting to see how this all plays out down the road.
with 207 mil on opening weekend, I think studios will start approaching films like this differently

I could see that. Of course it's not like Downey is all the sudden going to look like an old man...and this run of movies won't go on forever. But from what I've read, they are all under contract for several movies. So I don't see anyone just walking away. Also consider that Iron Man really was Downey's "comeback"/coming out as a megastar. Everyone knew the guy was talented as hell, but still somewhat afraid to put him in that blockbuster movie for fear of him backsliding. I think he loves playing Stark and probably feels like he "owes" that character quite a bit.
I think the roles are pretty securely cast for the next wave of movies...all the sequels (IM 3, Thor 2, Cap 2, Avengers 2, maybe a Hulk movie). I imagine all the franchises that are up and running will get 3 movies made, or at least 2 (IM, Thor, Cap, Avengers). I could see them maybe stopping with 2 Thor or Cap movies and focusing more on Avengers and then another wave of Marvel heroes...to maybe replace a member or 2 throughout an Avengers trilogy.
I'd love to see Banner in IM3 working for Stark Industries. The two are brilliant and Stark seemed to like him...they did ride off together at the end as well. I don't even know if we'd need to see him Hulk out in the movie...just maybe pop up as a supporting character for 15-20 minutes of solid screen time that could even lead to a Hulk movie. Hell...maybe Stark/Banner could work on something that would lead to creating the Vision for an Avengers sequel.
I think if the box office is strong on the solo movies they will keep doing them. They are also releasing Cap in the Spring of 2014 and Thor in November 2013 so they are branching out of the summer blockbuster game. I do like the idea of pairing characters together versus doing solo movie after solo movie. The Hulk would really benefit from this.
I like that idea minus Vision....F%$^ Vision
yeah I said it

Will it change the way comic movies are made?
God, I hope so.
Stay away from the chimps. You can't reason with them and you'll just end up with monkey shit all over your clothes.
Internet hypocrisy #47: Being the undisputed scourge of trolls until the troll supports your side of the debate and then becoming silent.
Maybe studios won't be afraid of letting a fanboy make the movies now? Avengers is so good simply because Whedon fully gets these characters. He understands them as individuals, he understands how they interact with each other, he understands that the action scenes are merely extensions of their characters/personalities.
All this, but he also understands that there is a fine balance between pleasing the fans, and overly pandering to them.
Hopefully the idea that the elements from the comics have to be changed or "adapted" to be appealing to mass audiences is now completely out the window. You can have 100% comic book accuracy and STILL appeal to massive demographics. Avengers just proved this once and for all and no one can deny it.

in the future, plastic surgery will have advanced to the point that they can physically rejuvenated Robert Downy jr and keep on cranking out Iron Man movies. or they'll make him a hologram like Tupac.
