Fantastic Four 583 SDCC Preview *Spoilers*!

The following four preview pages from FF 583 by Jonathan Hickman and Steve Epting were published in a giveaway book at the 2010 San Diego Comic Con. It features the first return of Dr Doom to the pages of FF since the Master of Doom debacle, and follows closely upon the heels of The Fall of Hulks story line. As to Doomwar, it's unknown at this time where that fits into the overall time line. Nonetheless, things are looking very interesting for Doctor Doom fans. The art for page one has been posted before, but this time we get dialogue and color.

Some interesting points to ponder based on these four pages.

1. The return of Boris Fortunov to Doom's side as his trusted aide and confidant. Boris has been MIA for far too long. Interesting to note that he's been upgraded to have a more than passing familiarity with advanced technology.

2. Will Kristoff Vernard return? Apparently he has been in sequestered exile for some time.

3. Doom's humility. He recognizes a fault, and he not only admits it but is willing to step down from the throne he fought so hard to gain in order to fix it, possibly out of a sense of doing what is best for Latveria. Hurrah to Hickman. It is this kind of depth of character development and realism that is so often bereft in comic book villains.

4. Doom's familiarity with Valeria Richards, and apparently, vice versa. What have they been doing together that we've not known about? Is Doom grooming a new heir apparent right under the FF's noses?

5. And what exactly has Valeria done????!!!

6. Finally, I love the art and the austere, stony look inside Doom's throne room. Three cheers to Steve Epting!

A lot of interesting stuff going on here.

Kristoff returning is cool. I still hope that something can be done with him and Cassie somewhere down the line.

Interesting that he states he needs to be reborn, and that he must get back what he lost. That whole thing sounds intriquing. Glad to see there's still a lot of fun Doom stuff coming down the pike.

And Val really is a great character. At first I was somewhat skeptical about Reed having another (presumably unaging) kid, but they're dong a lot of fun things with her.

This promo definately got me interested.

Doom delivered the baby, and even named her. So there's some sort of connection there, though I'm not exactly sure I'd say they were close.

They're probably closer than Reed things though.

Since Future-Franklin told her that "all hope lies in Doom" back in #575, not surprising that she'd approach him.

Man Hickman keeps knocking it out of the park with his current FF run. I have not liked FF this much since Waid and Weiringo were on the title

Agreed - looking very, very good. Nice to see it touching on recent events in other books.

So how many of the Alt-Reeds are still left I wonder? (I assume that's their extradimensional clubhouse Valeria's going in)

He's not wearing vibranium armor. He's not ruling the earth, as far as I can tell. And overall, he doesn't seem terribly happy about his present status quo.

So at best, Doom breaks even.

Exactly.... No armor upgrade is kind of disappointing but is pretty much par for the course. And none of his "powers" from the Millar run has ever been seen again either. He was able to kill a Watcher and Watchers are near Galactus level when it comes to cosmic power levels.

It looks as though Doom is more concerned about how the Leader and M.O.D.O.K trapped him in a retooled version of his own Liddleville transference set up. That setback seems to be the one that is vexing him the most.

I am so excited to see that Hickman has plans for Kristoff's return. I did make that request to Hickman back in April at C2 E2...but then maybe he was planning it all along.

After a great start Hickman hit a slump IMO. This, however, looks quite interesting.

Watch the sarcasm with "Uncle Doom" Val, you just might live to regret it.

I completely agree. As long as that 2nd rate Brian Hitch artist and the Nu-Earth shit stay away this should be amazing. PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ME EPTING IS THE ONLY ARTIST ON THIS BOOK
