For an episode about relationships, it was pretty enjoyable. They threw in enough comedy to keep the drama from being the main focus.

This made me laugh realizing this is more accurate now than ever:
Would you consider the series lighter in tone when compared to the original series?
"It isn't jumping the shark if you never come back down." Chuck
Not really. The first season of the previous show was about as light.
I would consider this series to be darker than the previous one, the creator's themselves think that the Legend of Korra is "darker and edgier" compared to Avatar: The Last Airbender. The most interesting part to me is how the Equalist's have a somewhat legitimate complaint/position. And Steve Blum's voice makes everything automatically "darker and edgier".
I don't know about that. It did introduce the genocide of the air benders, the tragic backstory of Zuko, Zhao killing a moon spirit, and the mood of the first season seem a little more serious while this series seem to have more comical moments than the original series. Especially the first season

Somewhat darker.
The fire nation threat was standard "evil empire" fare.
This new threat seems more visceral somehow.
I would venture that the idea that someone could forcefully remove your bending forever is almost akin to rape if I didn´t know that I´d spend the next 20 posts explaining the definition of "almost".
The fact that the main baddie is faceless makes him all the more unsettling.
Korra is really grating on my nerves. Poor Anne Boleyn....felt so bad for him.
Great ep. The animation never cease's to amaze me. The fight choreography is outstanding. I'm glad they've got the love triangle thing out of the way. I didn't want this season to turn into a soap opera. Bolelyn had me rolling. I lol'd a few time for real whilst watching that.
The animation is indeed great. Some of the backgrounds and lighting for times of day are just amazingly gorgeous. It'll be a crime if Nick only releases this on DVD and not Blu Ray. I'm really worried that they aren't.
Agreed. Every character in the show is imperfect, and each character is/will going through personal struggles and growth.
But I do wonder if it partially comes from how Korra was deliberately created to be the reverse type of Avatar that Aangs, do perhaps some of the irritated dissenters feel this way because they liked Aang's personality so much that a character who is designed to be opposite they would also feel the opposite about?
