Thumbs up Here Comes John Carter!

This looks veeeerrrrry interesting. I've loved this character since back in the day in high school I read the paperback editions of ERB's stories. The art looks good overall. I am really more excited for this than pretty much anything else from the main two. John Carter is a fasinating pulp-hero to whom a certain Man of Steel owes more than a passing nod. The boys of Cleveland were very well read and appropiated a bit of inspiration from John Carter and a certain Man of Bronze for their phenomenal Last Son of Krypton.

I can't wait to see the dollar issue and will look forward to this adaptation. Go Dynamite!

Wow! This caught me off guard. Looks good, but I can't believe there's no Adam Hughes cover variant?!
As much as he's asked (commissioned) to draw her, and as many of those Deja Thoris sketches that are online.
    You would think.
    Well maybe soon.

P.S. And Brain Stelfreeze too., he draws a Deja Thoris like no other!

Wow. I didn't even know this was coming, and for it to be $1 for the first issue?! SWEET! I've only gotten through the first two books and I love this character, so this is a no brainer for me.

I'm still holding out hope that the movie will be amazing. Hopefully this comic helps to set that bar high.

A couple of nice covers, but the interior art looks iffy.

Rex Mundi was great, and John Carter is a great character.

I'll get the first issue for a dollar, but for a $4 series, I'd just as soon amazon-tradewait.

Check out Marv Wolfman's John Carter Warlord of Mars back issues, btw. Quite good.

I think the interior art looks fine. I've certainly seen worse from the Big 2 lately.

    This should be fun!

While the press release explicitly states this is based on the first novel of Burroughs' Martian series, "A Princess of Mars," the title comes from the third book of the series. I would think that - if the series continues long enough - they will eventually draw elements from the first 5 (public domain) novels. Of course, the first novel leaves a lot of room to play when it simply says,

"For nine years years I served in the councils and fought the armies of Helium as a prince of the house of Tardos Mors."

Heck, the majority of the 28-issue (+3 annuals) Marvel series took place in that one sentence.

I really look forward to this. John Carter is by far the best of Burroughs' series IMO. Too early to tell if the adaption of the story itself is any good, but the art looks great.

Hmm, I had just decided to read my copy of "Princess of Mars" and then I see this. Interesting. I like the art: both the covers and the interiors. I'll definitely be buying the first trade of this.

Among the Burroughs properties I'd have kind of preferred Tarzan, but this still looks pretty cool.

I think Dark Horse still has the official Burroughs license. Dynamite, I believe, is doing an adaptation/derivitive work based on the public domain John Carter material. I know the first several Tarzan books are PD also, but it's harder to sell a Tarzan book without his (trademarked) name on the cover. John Carter (also trademarked) is known as the Warlord of Mars, which is also the title of the third PD book in the series, making that one a little easier to do.

So, I have never read the original John Carter novels, but this announcement made me want to. I picked up a one volume edition of the first three books. Only 130 pages in, but all I can say is WOW! I hope the comic series can live up to the novel.

    Some additional details:

Joe Jusko has stated he will be doing covers for "all 12 issues."

The official adaptation of "A Princess of Mars" will begin in issue #3. The first two issues will be "a never before told prelude" to the story. (according to Major Spoilers)
