Please bring Cass back and just put her beside Steph in some way? Please, DC?
They are my favourite friendship. I don't care if Cass isn't Batgirl again, just bring her back.
Nice interview and great insights on Steph's 2nd year as Batgirl.![]()
Ah, Dangit...... The book was not cancelled.....![]()
you got to wonder just what the hell they're doing, or why they completely threw away the character for whats going to be over a year now. She's been kinda mentioned in Red Robin, as well as actually being mentioned multiple times in Birds of Prey, so maybe with Bruce's impending return, she shows up?
But its really weird for them just to disregard a fan favorite character like that for no real reason.
I am loving this book on so many levels, and I'm psyched to see what year two has in store. Tired of hearing about Cassandra Cain--I understand people want her back, I don't blame them, but Steph is finally getting a chance to shine and I'm sad that readers won't give her a chance, simply because she's not Cassandra. Steph is an entirely different type of Batgirl, different type of character, and it's a great one. Sad that some closed minds are missing out on a great book.

Really, I don't get why he was concerned about losing Cassandra fans. She was written out of the book in two pages and essentially never mentioned again and treated like she was never Batgirl and has no place in a Batgirl-titled book. What outcome did he think would happen?
Well, for me, it's not so much that Cass isn't Batgirl, because I never expected her to be when they announced this book, it's that they treat her like she's been wiped from continuity as far as this book is concerned. It's just disheartening that she's had such a tiny role in this book, and gave up the mantle in such an underwhelming, disrespectful way, especially since Steph had a big role in Cass's book, and was a very important presence in her life.

Don't worry.
My brother and sister of the atom.
We are the X-men, and we stand together
I'm totally with JadeCanary on this one. I really like this book. It's fun and pretty and well written with good stories and intelligent dialogue. I recommend it regularly and will continue to do so.
You know you don't read Batgirl when: Your mind is dumb enough to think "Frank Miller?" for a second.
DC discarded their history, and now has none. DC will always be in the shadows of their past work.
Couldn't have said it better myself JadeCanary. And as Miller mentioned at the end of the interview, Batgirl is a legacy character so even if you prefer Babs or Cass that doesn't mean Steph can't work in the role.
And yes, even as Miller admitted in the interview the book stumbled in the beginning but that's hardly uncommon for a new series. "Batgirl" is simply a fun book and I'm enjoying the heck out of it. I like how Miller mentioned his take on Steph when the book started and how he wanted to have her acknowledge her past but move her into adulthood. Seeing Steph deal with her insecurities and having self-doubt but then slowly gaining more self-confidence as her experience grows and as she receives validation from others has made for a good read. It's also true to how life works and is a mirror to how many people feel at that point in their life's where Steph is at now (and most people don't even have to deal the crime fighting aspect).
This is was also a pretty good interview and it made me even more excited for what Miller has in store for Year Two. I'm glad to hear he's going to introduce Steph more into the greater DC Universe. Also I'm happy he's going to keep up the genre switching from story arc to story arc. That's one of the things I've also really enjoyed about the book so far.
Also I completely agree with Miller about Lee Garbett nailing the facial expressions in the book, that's been a great part of the series. Particularly when many artists have problems tackling facial expressions. So hopefully this means Garbett will be staying on the book for awhile.
All in all I really enjoyed this interview, just like I do the title itself. And I can't wait for the next year of "Batgirl"!![]()
Hahaha I had the exact same reaction.
I think having "Miller" and "Year [...]" doesn't help either.
I'm kind of surprised this isn't getting cancelled. I don't read the title, so I'm not saying it's bad or anything, but I don't think it sells very well, and when DC changes status quos, they usually cancel the lower-selling titles.
