Oh good. I was hoping they'd get around to giving him more substantial work with his exclusive contract.
Subject matter sounds interesting - taking Batman outside his usual comfort level, having him investigate mysticism and demonology. I wonder if this is a slight change in his nature post-FC/RoBW....now that he's basically died/gone back in time/slowly progressed forward with cosmic/godly implications, will he believe this "crap" a little more seriously now?![]()
Whoa! This is a huge deal!
Not so much in terms of David Finch getting more Batman work. Everyone saw that coming. But a new ongoing in November!? With Batman: The Return as a one-shot in October, written by Grant Morrison, and kickstarting a "new era"?
It looks to me like this is Bruce Wayne we're talking about.
So how does that affect our theories about what's going to happen once Bruce returns?
Also:
That just sounds like Grant Morrison's Batman. Not really a new direction. The Dark Knight takes Batman outside what he knows, into a world of demonology, dark arts, and mystery. He’s the ultimate detective, faster, stronger and smarter than any villian, but now he faces creatures to whom logic and mortality don’t apply.
I want Dark Knight to be true to Batman’s street level, crime fighter roots. He’ll face a rogues gallery that we’re all familiar with, but this book will take him on a darker path where he’ll be stretched to his physical and psychological limits.

As I said in another thread, this could go either way.
Finch is a great artist, but I don't know if he'll turn out to be a god writer too.
Top 3: Batman, Wonder Woman, X-force
Happy about the "Batman-the return", Morrison/Finch team-up.
Batman Odyssey and Tony Daniels work has left a bad taste in my mouth for artist runs as a writer.
This sounds interesting enough but do we really need ANOTHER ongoing for this. But worst of all, has Finch ever written anything before. I liked Tony Daniel's Batman writing(except BftC) but I'm not sure if Finch will work out the same. I'm just about to go to bed, so maybe I just need some sleep to feel better about this. But overall a very meh feeling.
Man, wish they would have just have him do 'Tec. Do we really need another Batman book, not that i mind because i love Batman, but they need to do something with 'Tec to pull it back up. Not sure about Finch writing to be honest, though i like Tony Daniel's Batman a lot so im defiantly open to it. It'll be interesting.

The art will be nice, but not too sure about Finch being a writer though
"Criminals are a cowardly, superstitious lot." - Dick Grayson
"That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard." - Damian Wayne
One thing that interesting is that it's called 'the Dark Knight'. For some reason that makes me think that Morrison is actually going for the two Batmen idea, with Dick as the Silver-age inspired Batman that works with Robin and still has a great time doing it. While Bruce is the Miller style dark Batman that works alone and haunts the night. Overall interesting.
awesome!! I can't wait for this now
I'm not that familiar with Finch, but what i've seen of his Batman work i really like. I don't know about his writing, but DC must be pretty confident to give him a new ongoing title. And does all sound very curious . . . so much Batman news!
There's absolutely no reason for this to be a new ongoing as far as I can see. Finch's art is great and a great fit for the character and if they want to let him try his hand at writing that's fine, but we absolutely don't need a new Batman ongoing. Especially when, as others have noted, 'Tec is just sitting there waiting for something exciting to fill the Batwoman void.
I'll probably just trade wait this so I can get a better idea of the overall quality.
You haven't read a single issue by Finch. You have no clue as to how well Finch may or may not do. And Yet, you're sure there isn't any need for an ongoing? How exactly did you come to that conclusion with so little information to base it upon?![]()
