I'm a huge fan, and I've always been confused about that too. I thought the toy was, perhaps, the ugliest toy I'd ever seen. So much so that I told my mom that I did not want it... ever. I loved the comic, but still think Rom's design is dull, at best, and ugly, at worst.

I liked the designs of all the old-school Spaceknights, but Rom. And I still think Rom flopped as a toy because of its hideous design.

That plain-looking quality works for me. The spaceknights with their futuristic/midieval styling looks so lame... like someone heard the name spaceknights and decided they had to be spacey but also look like old time knights too... as if knight only meant midieval warriors of Earth's olden days. Rom was awesome because despite his rather plain design, he still captured imaginations and was the center of great stories. Without Rom, the other Spaceknights can go screw asteroids... because I'm not interested.

Are you asking what you are missing on the look or the book? On the look, I agree that the look was fine but not iconic. But the book was terrific and had more important stories than it is usually remembered for since the property is gone. For example, I am pretty sure that Rogue started to turn good in Rom--but I don't have my issues anymore so I can't check.

It was a really cool series and I would love to see it back.

coincidentally, Cassie Lang had a Rom action figure (back in the 80s). her dad had to fix it. he would later adventure with Rom in Canada.

i'm mostly talking about the look. the idea of him being able to detect and hunt down dire wraith isn't bad (if a little generic). it makes him like Rowdy Roddy Piper in They Live. i just think his appearance was anything but cool. i'd love to see a tweaked version of Rom.

I only remember reading one issue of ROM (I think it had a ton of heroes in it) and hated it, but I did enjoy the Dire Wraiths. I would not buy a ROM title if it came out unless it were an exceptional story.

I agree with that, but as a general rule the only book I buy that I don't think is good is Avengers (just to keep the collection complete) and I buy almost every other Marvel book that I hear good things about.

ROM was one of my favorites. Some of Sal Buscema and Bill Mantlo's best work. I would NOT want to see Marvel revive the book though. With MY track record with them, I am currently NOT buying any of Marvel's books, I doubt I would like it. I would like to see the original book reprinted though.

if they had some regular marvel universe citizen wake up (like they did in the last couple of Eternals series) one day and start seeing Dire Wraith, i might actually read it. he could then fashion himself homemade "spaceknight" armor and go around shooting people.

Besides, the whole pun with his name is kind of dated now.

Pretty much agree with you on that. Reprints would be nice, and as someone else mentioned above, reprints of other books where Rom has appeared just for the sake of being able to acknowledge and reprint those issues as well.
