Default Should Marvel buy the rights to Rom?

Should marvel just buy the rights to the character? the toy on its own wasnt that impressive and the comic series cant be reprinted elsewhere due to being way too entrenched in the MU. It seems the best option is for marvel to buy the rights completley then use the character again

Why is it exactly that people are so fond of ROM?

The ROM series was really good. Despite its dopey origin, Mantlo and Buscema turned out years of great sci-fi superhero action.

Yeah, Rom had some great storylines. Especially the one where the Dire Wraiths kidnapped and replaced the entire town.

And Rom VS Hulk in "To Kill or Cure"

    That story ruled.

I never read any Rom... but I always thought the Dire Wraiths were pretty cool.

I wonder if Rom would be workable if they just changed his name and his look.

Heroes do change their look from time to time.

If the rights were available cheap enough I imagine Marvel would get them on principle, but it's hardly a major priority of theirs, or something they'd spend any significant amount of money or legal time pursuing.

I think it would be nice, but I have a feeling they wouldn't make back whatever it would cost to buy the rights and then eventually make a comic featuring him. I don't think there's much of a market for a character that was somewhat popular as of a few decades ago.

Not that I'd complain if they were to actually go through with it, but I just don't imagine it being realistic.

Rom and his wife come to Earth for Rick Jones wedding, so it would seem that if he were not portrayed as "ROM: Spaceknight" and given the traditional look, there wouldn't be any copyright issues. Of course, that might have only been ok as a one-off kind of thing.
