I bet they changed it because of the travel channel's TV show "Gardens of the Globe"

Marvel forced the change, actually. They said it was too similar to Guardians of the Galaxy.

"Guarding the Globe" was my suggestion--at first glance it doesn't visually look too dissimilar to the book's original title. We tossed a few ideas back and forth and Robert ended up settling on that.

Thanks for letting us know. The press releases were pretty limited in information regarding the reason for the change, although reading between the lines I think few people will be surprised.

Kirkman is a big guy. Long reach. It might have worked.

What's sad about the whole thing is the "too similar" argument is basically Marvel claiming that we, as readers, are too stupid to tell the difference between Guardians of the Globe and Guardians of the Galaxy as if the difference were not obvious. I wonder if they would have used the same argument for anything else Guardians of the "-----" if the blank was filled with a word that didn't start with a G. Guardians of Earth or Guardians of the Planet for example.

I am not entirely convinced they would win in court with the too similar argument, but it may not be worth the legal fees to argue the point. Would have been polite for them to make their argument sooner, since it has been in solicits for months now. I hope the first issue hadn't been to the printers yet.
