    Default Uncanny X-Men help

    Hello, new member here. I was just wondering if someone could recommend an issue number to start reading at for the Uncanny X-Men. I've never read it before and seeing as how there are more than 500 issues I was hoping someone could give me a spot to start reading where a new story arc starts so I'm not too confused about any back story that I would not have read. Thanks.

    This thread should be able to help you quite a bit. In all honesty, I would stick to self-contained storylines for now, like Astonishing X-Men by Joss Whedon. It ran for 25 issues and features quite a few of the X-Men's bigger characters.

    As they say, there's a post at the top of the page that would help you.

    Right now the X-Universe is in the middle of a crossover, so I wouldn't start picking one single book. Unless you buy the whole crossover, you won't undertand the story.

    But are you interested in Uncanny X-Men solely or in the X-Men books in general?
    Cause, IMO, Uncanny is the worst X-Men book out there right now (ironically), and I strongly recommend other X-Books to get into the X-Universe. You should try X-Factor, X-Force, Legacy or New Mutants.

    What kind of books do you like exactly? The X-Books have books for all kinds of tastes: action filled (X-Force), character driven stories with great dialogues (X-Factor), etc.

    ::: Jamie MadroX ::: Gertrude Yorkes ::: Emma Frost ::: Sooraya Qadir ::: Layla Miller ::: Xavin ::: Rogue :::
    ::: Kiden Nixon ::: Paras Gavaskar ::: Monet St. Croix ::: Joshua Foley ::: Warlock ::: Molly Hayes ::: Julian Keller :::
    ::: Ruth Aldine ::: Douglas Ramsey ::: Laura Kinney ::: Manuel De La Rocha ::: Telford Porter ::: David Haller ::: Amara Aquilla :::

    * X-Factor * X-Force * X-Men Legacy * New Mutants *

    Well I'm more interested in the xmen universe in general and I'm not at all attached to Uncanny. If I had to pick a favorite character it would probably be wolverine or gambit. There are just so many books and issues that I'm not sure where to start.

    Next Wednesday, a brand new series titled simply "X-Men" will be starting. Gambit and Wolverine will both be featured in it. You should check it out. The first arc involves the X-men fighting vampires.

    Gambit and wolverine both had very successful ongoing series. Heck, wolverine still has multiple ongoing series. You should check them out. Ask your local comic book shop for more details.

    Exactly. If you like those two characters you should probably pick their minis. They both had several solo tittles. From there you should start reading whatever characters pick your interest I guess.

    As for where they are being feature right now…

    Well, Wolverine makes appearances everywhere, as usual, it’s insane. But latest X-Force is great, he is the team leader and it shows how he handles that position. It’s very well written and the stories are great, filled with action and (a lot) of violence but also funny moments. The team is great and it will introduce you some characters and villains from the X-Universe.

    Gambit has been appearing in X-Men Legacy. But if you want to follow his latest development you should pick: the Blood Of Apocalypse story, Messiah Complex crossover and then X-Men: Legacy. Or just pick the “X-Men - Second Coming – Hellbound” mini. It’s tree issues (the two first issues are already out), and though is part of the current crossover you don’t necessary need to read other issues to understand the story. All you need to know is that *spoiler alert* Gambit was transform into a Horsemen of Apocalypse and then he was reversed back to his own self, but some of Apocalypse’s programing still remained dormant in his psyche.

    Hope that helps!
