Default Comic Interest If There Was Never Spider-Man

Suppose Spider-Man was never created, Stan thought of it maybe, but he never worked on it with "Steve Ditko", or it was just an idea that passed through. Just imagine Spider-Man was never created, how do you suppose your comic interest would be like?

    Good question.
    Dunno...
I started reading comics with Spider-Man comics when i was a kid, without Spider-Man comics i would have gravitated more to the Hulk comics and Batman stories i think.
Another comic books characters i think are interesting but just not as much as Spider-Man.

Me, well, I got introduce to comics through Superman, I always loved Superman, I guess I just would be much less focused on comics, cause the biggest portion of my comic collection is Spider-Man comics, I collect Spider-Man like he's a limb I need

Maybe I would be more focused on collecting Hulk, Superman & Batman, but wouldn't be as interested in Marvel as I would be in DC comics

Chances are good I would have still read comics, but that I would have been much more focused on Batman. I might never have gotten into Marvel Comics at all, were it not for Spider-Man.

My guess is that I either wouldn't read comics or I would be MUCH more focused on the X-Men than I am now.

maybe a similar character like Peter Parker would have been created or another similar character that already existed would have become more popular. Not quite sure who, but the concept "loser becomes superhero" can't be used only for spider-man, so maybe i would have been interested in this hero.

Absolutely nil. Spider-Man, specifically the newspaper strip, was my gateway drug.

I got into comics through the Hulk at first. So I guess I'd still be reading comics even without Spidey. But I doubt I'd have stuck around this long without him.

I was a struggling reader when I was a child. I actually have dyslexia and thus my father started buying me comic books. He thought it would get me reading. It was a wise choice by him and probably largely why I now have a bachelors degree in English.

I was reading a lot of Archie stuff specifically the old Sonic comics. It was at an easier reading level and at the time was at a great jumping on point.

It took me a few years to get into Spider-Man comics. I think had they not existed my interest might have drifted into Science Fiction novels. At the time DC was very convoluted and hard to jump into.

Thus I imagine I would have read comics, but likely not become an avid adult reader of the medium as I am.

I probably would have been drawn in by the X-Men and Batman. No Spider-Man would probably have pushed my start date back a year or two though.

It's tough to say, because it's more about what the industry would be like without Spider-Man. The two books that got me into comics were Daredevil and Punisher, which probably wouldn't exist if Spider-Man never existed.

A lot of the fondness I have for comics wouldn't exist, in any case. When I was a kid I loved the 60s cartoon, the 90s cartoon, the video games, etc. and I'd pick up an occasional Spider-Man comic just because it seemed cool. So a lot of the nice childhood Marvel memories I have wouldn't be there, and I wouldn't feel that close to the company these days.

I'd say the impact was much greater than you guys think, considering how much of an impact Spider-Man had in the early 60's.

My initial interest was in X-Men and a bit later X-Factor. Spidey was cool but not my favourite so it wouldn't have had a huge impact.

I think Schmitty would be whistfully wondering what was missing from his life however.

They should do some meta "It's a wonderful World" mini where Spidey comics never existed. Seems like something up Alan Moore's alley.
