Default CBR: McCann's Bird's Eye View of "Hawkeye and Mockingbird"

In "Hawkeye and Mockingbird" #1, the bombshell revelations were flying fast and furious. CBR News spoke with writer Jim McCann about the reveals and what they mean for the series' titular couple.

Nice interview. I am glad that Jim acknowledge the fact that Mockingbird is doing 'push-pull' act with Clint. I wonder how long Clint will allow it to be that one sided before he puts his foot down and says enough. While I am sure that he loves her very much, I just get the impression that the only reason Clint is forcing the relationship is because 1. He is trying to force some normalcy back into his life. 2. Because she's aloof and unatainable (the kind of woman he seems to go for).

    Default Echo?

I hope he touches on the fact that Barton got into a little Hanky-Panky with Echo in New Avengers just before Secret Invasion and Bobbi's return. Are we ever going to see any fallout from that or what?

There's nothing to cover really (least not as far as I'm concerned) she was dead as far as he knew and he and Maya felt like getting frisky Not sure why Clint would feel particuarly compelled to disclose that information to Bobbi.

God, everytime the man speaks, it shows that he is the perfect writer to helm this book indefinitely.

"To me, this is an action book on two levels - the spy action adventure and the actions characters take. I don't think I can say this enough - this is going to be a wild ride in so many ways. There will be some knee-jerk reactions some fans will have along the way & I know it's because you won't see the whole story until it has played out, but know that I'm not going to do anything for shock value or to portray anyone as weak or a plot-device. There is a reason for each person's decision, even if they make bad ones. This book is about actions & consequences, good and ill. I hope you stay with it, even through the bumpy parts, because it's not always going to be hearts and flowers, nor will it always be ghosts of the past. Ultimately, this is a book about two heroes - Hawkeye and Mockingbird - and what makes these human beings heroes and what price and what rewards come with being a hero. That's what the "Heroic Age" is for me."

Exactly. And some reason I suspect, given her contacts, Bobbi already knows. She knew all about his affair with Moonstone. Bobbi probably wouldn't care. She was supposed to be dead after all, she wouldn't expect him to sit around mourning her the rest of his life.

I'm looking forward to issue #100, where Clint, Jr. and Bobbi, Jr. take over for their parents. ;-)

On the other hand, who wouldn't love to see Bobbi and Karla have a stare down, if only for the smirk on Bobbi's face when Karla flinched.

If they ever were to go after each other. I hope that it would involve something more psychological on both of their parts. I don't want to see them in a room pulling each others hair like some cheap tawdry soap opera.

I can't imagine Bobbi (what I know of her, by way of McCann) going directly after Karla...ever. If anything, I think it'd be like one of those Burn Notice episodes where Michael goes after another spy and plays the "Yes, I probably could be lying, but you're in such a powerful position, why would I ever try to fool you, who is in such a powerful position?" card. 3/4ths of the story would be Karla goading Bobbi about having Clint in bed, Bobbi getting more and more upset by it, only to have the last act show that Bobbi didn't care (for the reasons you said) but knew Karla would try to play her as if she did.

This may just be me making assumptions based on too little information, but I get the feeling Karla manipulates individual people while Bobbi manipulates entire situations, which is a whole 'nother game.

Why would Karla flinch? She is ten times more powerful than Bobbi. That would be like expecting Wonderman to flinch if stared down by Molly.

While it's not beneath Karla to lie, I don't think it's ever been confirmed that they have had sex. Timing wise, it seems unlikely. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see Karla guest star (because it would add tension), but I don't necessarily think it needs to be focused on Karla tormenting Bobbi. Karla's a b*tch, she doesn't need to be "foe" to wind up Bobbi. What villain connects Karla, Bobbi and Clint, I don't know. Plus, like Songbird, Karla's power level might be too much for street-level action.

Oooooo, when did we learn this? And what did Bobbi say?

Nothing really. She just expressed surprised Clint hooked up with her. The line was: 'Moonstone! Really!!!??' Bobbi didn't sound jealous or resentful. Just suprised.
