After reading this interview, I'm really looking forward to Irving's B&R. He put a lot of thought into his art.
Also, I guess this confirms that The Joker will still have the fixed grin he had in R.I.P..
Good interview, and he is a good artist. His B&R arc should be real good.
I've got to say though I don't like that he does all of his art all digital. I prefer artists use the old pencil, and paper, but that's me.
Also I can't wait to see his take on the Joker.
"Welcome to the party, pal!" - John McClane
Big fan of Irvings art here as well. Loved his pencils in ROBW and looking forward to his art in Batman and Robin.
What's left to say?![]()
"You can't trust them as poets either. The true poet is anonymous, as to his habits, but these boys have to look, act, and apparently smell like poets"
Flannery O'Connor on the beats.
So he draws with a pen device on a tablet?
Love his use of color and shadow. Can't wait to see his Joker!!
"Calm down, call Batman." - Greg Capullo
As long as he's not drawing Superman, I think we're good to go.
I'm generally not a huge fan of digital art, but Irving is a modern master, or if not, he's on his way to that title. I'm absolutely giddy to see his interpretation of the Joker.
I personally can't stand Irving's art. It just looks so glossy and phoney, a problem I find with any artist who relies heavily on digital tools.

It's not just artist who work digitally. It's just his style. Look at Brian Bolland's art, which has been 100% digital since 1998, and you can't tell the difference between his "traditional" art and his digital.
I hate when people talk about digital art like it's cheating or something.
This was my first exposure to Irving's art. It reminds me a little of Daniel Acuna's -- and I really like Acuna's art so Irving is someone I'm going to be watching out for henceforth.
That said, not everyone seems to like Irving's work. One of CBR's columnists complained (and he was right to a degree) that in some instances, you couldn't tell Mordecai apart from the other characters.
Nice interview. Too bad that they don't show any artwork of Irving's in Batman and Robin
"Criminals are a cowardly, superstitious lot." - Dick Grayson
"That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard." - Damian Wayne
I just don't like when artist do all their work digital, but that's what he prefers, and its fine. He's still a great artist.
Also I think its a sign of the times. As we advance our technology, more comic artist will probally move onto drawing this way as comics will probally end up being all digital anyway.
"Welcome to the party, pal!" - John McClane
Oh, don't get me wrong. Digital art is a completely respectable art form. It's just not one I find particularly appealing.
It's all subjective. I'm not trying to say digital artists are 'lesser' than traditional artists, just that I find that style of art one I don't connect to. Irving is talented, but I still, personally, dislike his stuff.
