    Kraven's Last Hunt. 'Nuff said.
I agree with these four. Also:

Spider-Man: Sinister Six - reprinting the classic Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1 and the six-part rematch from the 90's.

I finished Ultimate Spider-Man, but have been scared of getting back into mainstream marvel because every time I try to I hear about some crazy shit going down with parker, lol
The current "Big Time" era of Amazing Spider-man may actually be pretty close to a Grant Morrison New X-men style run on the Spider-Man books.

Throw up your favourites in the thread.
I merged your thread with an earlier thread on recommended TPBs.

It does have some BND era recommendations, although plenty are from the preceding 45 years.

There's a separate thread for out of print material, if you're looking for more obscure recommendations. Nine pages on the Spider-Man 2099 meets Spider-Man one-shot have been moved there.

I'd try the Ultimate JMS collections. There's 5 total and they encompass his whole run on the book including the crossover with Marvel Knights Spider-Man and Friendly neighborhood. I hadn't read Spidey in years and found his run to be a great jumping on point.

Default recommend some Spider-Man graphic novels/trades suitable for non-Spidey readers

    Hello all,

I am a lifelong Spider-Man fan who has recently joined a graphic novel book club where superhero books are looked down upon by some. I want to suggest a graphic novel/trade paperback which best represents one of the greatest superheroes of all time but am not sure which one to go with.

I've been loving Amazing since Brand New Day, but not sure if any of the trades sum it up well enough.

Spider-Man: Blue is pretty good, but I'm not sure how accesible it would be to non-fans.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you're looking for something for people who like graphic novels but not necesarily Spider-Man or super heroes, I'd go with Kraven's Last Hunt.

Spider-Man: Reign could work. It's one of the darkest Spider-Man stories around and requires little more than basic knowledge of the mythos.

My suggestion: have him / her watch some television. It was the Spider-Man cartoons that got me into his comics anyways in the first place. If one still doesn't read the comics, hopefully the least, if one likes what they see, maybe they'll buy the action figures hahaha!

Otherwise, if one wants to read darkness, I'd suggest Batman, or Watchmen, or Sin City, or something. Last Hunt or Reign: much too dark, for a mostly naturally cheerful, happy-go-lucky, optimistic hero. Blue will do, aswell as one, any, of the Essential Spider-Mans.

Not really a Spider-Man book (although he certainly does come into play in it), but I would give Marvels by Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross a shot. It's a tremendous story told from the perspective of a regular civilian watching the Marvel Universe unfold. (If you've never read it, go out and buy it.) All of the super heroes are as WE would see them as observers. The artwork by Alex Ross is magnificent and the story and characters crafted by Kurt Busiek are beyond description. Might be great for people with a disdain for super heroes (actually that attitude is dealt with in the story).

The more I think about that story the more I like it. The art is kind of funky, but the story was pretty intriguing and classic. Waiting for a sequel about Spider-Man and his sidekick, Doc Ock's disembodied arms.

I basically started by reading Marvel Essentials Spider-Man which goes right back to Amazing Fantasy #1 if I am not mistaken.
