Hey guys! Are the JMS Ultimate Collections reprints of the 10 Spider-man paperbacks which starts with Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 1: Coming Home and ends with Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 10: New Avengers?

If so, I'll just get the ultimate collections instead of the individual books. Thanks in advance!

Yeah, the Ultimate collections cover the same material as the smaller TPBs (although the later volumes go beyond the New Avengers collection.)

Yeah. I did my research and found out the ten smaller volumes are collected in the first four JMS Ultimate collections. I'll just get those since I already have Back in Black (which IMO is one of the spidey greats) and beyond.

    Thanks!

I would consider the following trades Must Owns

    • Marvel Masterworks: The Amazing Spider-Man Volume 1
    • Marvel Masterworks: The Amazing Spider-Man Volume 2
    • Marvel Masterworks: The Amazing Spider-Man Volume 3
    • Spider-Man: Death of the Stacy's
    • Spider-Man: Kraven's Last Hunt
    • Spider-Man: Son of the Goblin
    • Peter Parker Spider-Man: A Day in the Life
    • Peter Parker Spider-Man: One Small Break
    • Amazing Spider-Man: JMS Ultimate Collection Volume 1
    • Marvel Knights Spider-Man Hardcover
    • Spider-Man/Mary-Jane: You Just Hit The Jackpot
    • Ultimate Spider-Man (Hardcover or Ultimate Collection) Volume 1

And I would also highly recommend getting these:

    • Marvel Masterworks: The Amazing Spider-Man Volume 4
    • Marvel Masterworks: The Amazing Spider-Man Volume 5
    • Spider-Man: The Complete Clone Saga Epic Volume 1
    • Spider-Man: The Complete Clone Saga Epic Volume 2
    • Spider-Man: The Complete Clone Saga Epic Volume 3
    • Spider-Man: The Complete Clone Saga Epic Volume 4
    • Spider-Man: The Complete Clone Saga Epic Volume 5
    • Peter Parker Spider-Man: Return of the Goblin
    • Peter Parker Spider-Man: Trials and Tribulations
    • Peter Parker Spider-Man: Senseless Violence
    • Spectacular Spider-Man: The Hunger
    • Spectacular Spider-Man: Countdown
    • Spectacular Spider-Man: Here There Be Monsters
    • Amazing Spider-Man: JMS Ultimate Collection Volume 2
    • Amazing Spider-Man: JMS Ultimate Collection Volume 3
    • Amazing Spider-Man: JMS Ultimate Collection Volume 4
    • Ultimate Spider-Man Hardcovers 2-11 The hardcovers are better than the trade paperbacks and contain USM 1/2 as well as USM: Requiem, which the paperbacks don't have

Thanks for that list. It looks well rounded. I've got some random trades and all the JMS ultimates, but I've been looking to fill in some gaps before I start reading through. I can't help wanting the clone saga books, that was when I was kind of reading as a kid and I could never follow the whole thing.

    That's okay

I would get those Clone Saga books if I were you, I was hesitant at first because I have a lot of those as single issues but they do read a lot better in trade. Everything is put into order for you and it even contains the mini series and one-shots from that period that are harder to find.

I really like the Clone Saga so I'd say those books are among the best comic purchases I've made

yeah, clone saga gets a LOT of bad rap, but I bet a lot of that is because it was spread over so many books. That had to have been confusing.

I'd say it is probably my favourite Spider-Man storyline. I like huge arcs like that.

I should also say that I really like your site too. I've checked there quite a few times in the past to see what order the collections go in and which trades I might buy next. Good job

    Default Good Spidey Trades?

Can anyone tell me of any good modern spider-man books? I've asked this once before and somone recomended the ultimate collection BOOKS by JMS and while i became a fan of JMS after reading his run on Thor i knew i could never buy those books when i saw than john romita Jr did the artwork, i know a lot of people on here love his art but i cant stand it and im really dying to just read a good Spider-Man story so if anyone could tell me of some good spidey trades to read that DONT feature John Romita Jr as an artist PLEASE let me know

There are a ton. Why not go to a local bookstore and leaf through some, see what you like? New Ways to Die is good, as is Crime and Punisher.

You can't go wrong with the first few volumes of Marvel Masterworks: Spider-Man, or Essential Spider-Man if you don't mind black and white.

    Also recommended:

    Spider-Man: Blue
    Spider-Man: Kraven's Last Hunt
    Spider-Man / Human Torch
    Spider-Man: Birth of Venom
Spider-Man: A Day in the Life
Spider-Man: Brand New Day vol 3
    Spider-Man: Death and Dating
Spider-Man Visionaries: Kurt Busiek vol 1

Just read Amazing Spider-Man since the beggining of BND to the start of Big Time.
You can not go wrong with that.

And you can always skip the few story arcs illustrated by John Romita Jr in BND,all though i think you really should look at the more recent comics illustrated by him.
The artist just keeps improving his art style over time.
    Pull List:Uncanny Avengers,Avengers,Superior Spider-Man,Daredevil,All New X-Men,Hawkeye,Captain America,Thor:God of Thunder,Swamp Thing,Morbius,Thunderbolts,Iron Man,Fatale.

Oh yah! Forgot he drew that one. Ok, avoid New Ways to Die, then, its JRjr.

Well, just substitute Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Vol. 2: Mystery Date.

    I'll add some more:

Spider-Man: Death of the Stacys - Can't say enough good things about this volume.
Spider-Man: The Complete Clone Saga Epic (Books 1 and 2 especially)
Spider-Man: Back in Black (I don't think there is any JRjr in there)
Spider-Man: One More Day (Just to see what all the hoopla was about, and its got good art)
