I think it's just that the Avenger's are Earth's Mightiest, and they have the heroes from Earth who have consistently been portrayed as some of the mightiest. The only ones I can think of who should be included in "Earth's Mightiest" and aren't from North America (or are X-Men) are T'Challa and Brian Braddock.

I think it's mostly just a factor of the fact that since Marvel is an American company, most of their mighty heroes are American. If the international scene was fleshed out more beyond Wakanda and MI:13 and I knew more international heroes, then maybe I would see it like other people do, but as of right now I'm fine.

If anyone could put forth some more diverse heroes (excluding X-Men) that they think should be on the team I would appreciate it.

The two you mentioned would be fine, also there's also possible recruits from the teams you mentioned in your previous post, plus China Force, Les Heros de Paris, and a few others to be found around the MU.

I'm not saying the Classic US Avengers, shouldn't be on teams by a majority, they are after all the product of successful history, it's just I think comic readership as a whole can handle a little more diversity, without being quite so US-centric. With regard to the prominent Earth team; The Avengers, anyway.

This quite an interesting parallel. I'm not sure how I feel about gun-control, it's issue that's at a geographic distance from me. On the one hand, they're aren't so many guns in the U.K., but we probably have more knife crime instead, take away the knives, and we'd have sticks and stone crime, criminals find ways to arm themselves and it's easier to get guns illegally than legally here. This puts innocent citizens at a disadvantage in protecting themselves.
On the other hand, we have significantly less wrongful police shootings, family gun accidents, mass school shootings, and innocent crossfire victims.
Finally I'd argue that the right to bear arms isn't the same as the right to go out and pro-actively apprehend criminals, and you'd expect some responsibility and regulation to be applied to those who do.

    So............ I dunno

well the connection was made in the comics. albeit 20 years ago. in one of simonson's fantastic four issues, the ff go to washington to testify before congress about a superhuman registration act ( so it wasnt a new idea) Testifying agaisnt it is a member of the NRA who compared superpowers to guns and actually said, "if you outlaw superpowers then only outlaws will have superpowers" to which the thing responds that he never thought he would agree with the NRA ( he might have said republicans, actually. I need to check the issue again) to which Mr Fantastic replies that they do have a consistent point of view. In the end Mr Fantastic helps defeat the act ( for a time) within three issues.

But the S.H.R.A didn't outlaw superpowers, it was just regulation and control. I really don't want to argue Civil War though, that's STILL happening on other threads, and I never made up my mind. There are definite parallels like I said, but I don't think it's exactly the same situation.

I do find it disappointing that there is an AK for every 50 people in the world and I don't have one though. Probably a good idea in the long one, disgruntled postal workers don't even come close

Jeff Parker is the best Avengers writer in the past decade.

Spider-Man should be married … but Hawkeye shouldn’t.

The Great Lakes Avengers are real Avengers.

Two-Gun Kid is a real Avenger … and he needs to be on one of the core teams.

Rick Jones should come back to the Avengers more often.

Songbird and MACH-[insert roman numeral here] need to be Avengers ASAP.

Dr Druid is cool. (I mean, c’mon. He’s an occult character who has made it his life’s mission to cover up the supernatural by pretending to be a skeptic. That’s awesome)

The second Spider-Woman is far superior to the first and should be on the team instead.

Hank Pym is a supervillain and he’s too deluded to know it.
New and improved me. Now with a CAPITAL “B”.

Actually, what Steve did was say a group of people were above the government law. Not fascist, but some what discriminatory as he ignored the rights and opinions of the average citizens without trying to plead his own case to the people or law makers, but just going renegade and doing what he wanted.

The SHRA was justified, if you have powers capable of leveling buildings or you enjoying going around and beating people up in masks, you should have to answer to someone other then just your own judgment.

But dear heaven, let's not turn this into another SHRA debate. This thread has more potential then one of those ends crap fests.

Steve decided that, in reaction to a government policy he didn't like, he'd gather a group of people to fight representatives of the government in the street, rather than try to change public opinion through peaceful democratic means.

    His tactics were undeniably fascist.
