Thanos is too good of a villain to be used in anything but the LAST Avengers movie made EVER.

Yeah, I agree, that is more editorial's current lazy way of thinking (and of advertising) than anything else. I actually got to enjoy the original Dark Phoenix saga without getting into it in ground zero. I started reading Uncanny X-Men around 112 (when they were facing Magneto), managed to get the back issues up to 109 (Wolverine vs Weapon Alpha), but it was only years later that I maneged to get the issues with Jean Grey's transformation into Phoenix, her saving the Universe, and other early details of the story. For crying out loud, the 80's and 90's are full of fans that became lifers without being around since ground zero, and they didn't have the internet, wikipedia, Essentials, the trade market, etc.. like we do nowadays. I remember Reading at the same time Avengers (around 170), Marvel Triple Action (which was reprinting around 20) and Marvel Super-Action (which was reprinting around 65), and I never got confused, just more curious and anxious to fill out the holes in my knowledge of the team. Everything you need to know about AvsX is exaustingly being rehashed almost everywhere you look (basically, The Phoenix Force is comming to Earth, Cap belives it will destroy it, Cyclops belives it will restar the mutant gene, Hope is belived by both parties to be the host for the PF, the rest are just details. It's not rocket science, nor Shakespeare. Far from it. The way both sides are being so blatantly mischarachterized as to fit the plot, I actully think someone who doesn't have much knowledge of the MU might enjoy it more than someone who does. Honestly, I don't know where this myth that you can't enjoy a comic without knowing the whole continuity and mythology came from.

So new Sam Jackson Fury and Coulson are in 616 to hand-hold the (probably non-existent) new post-movie readers, as is Ultimate Hawkeye (or at least, his costume).
I can see a sort of logic to that thinking; people see the movie and come to the comics wanting and expecting to see the same characters, looking and acting the same as in the movie. Fair enough.
So explain how a new, post-movie reader can possibly come to New Avengers and think it's anything to do with the group in the Movie?
Why hasn't this team been swept away like Hawkeye's costume to spare the movie-going public the confusion of "where's Thor/Iron Man/Hulk/Cap/Hawkeye/Black Widow? Who the hell are these losers, and why is Wolverine, and X-man, in an Avengers book?"
Because if White Fury or Purple Hawkeye are too confusing and off-putting for new readers who come in because of the movie, New Avengers will drive them away in confused droves.
I don't know. No doubt, Thanos is a great villain. But he's not the first thing that springs to mind when I think of Avengers bad guys. Captain Marvel, Silver Surfer, Adam Warlock, Cosmic Heroes... I think of Thanos as their villain (granted, the Avengers have faced him a few times, and it was always pretty much spectacular). When I think of the Avengers villains, Kang, Ultron, Zemo and the Masters of Evil, The Zodiac, the Collector, the Supreme Inteligence, all of them spring to mind before Thanos. Even Loki, though primarily a Thor villain, was responsibile for the birth of the Avengers.
Which brings me to my next controversial opinion:
The Avengers need more new villains of their own.
I mean, the last potentially great villains that were created specifically for the Avengers were Pagan, Lord Templar and Mr Tremont (okay, maybe the last one needs a "cooler" name, but he was, IMHO, intresting), during Busiek's run. I really would like to see them brought back by other writers and developed further, but I also would like to see new villains created for the Avengers. The last major ones we had, the Hood and Osborn, were brought in from other sides of the MU. I hope the new writer does something about that, and gives us a really threatening and complex villain that we can add to the ranks of Ultron, Kang or Imortus.
Peace
The Avengers movie was just ok
Has there been any confirmation about that? I still place that next to the rumors of him taking over the X-Titles, but there is no doubt that Thanos will get a big push comics wise for the next movie. Honestly, I'd rather see a different kind of threat other than another outter-space invasion.
Peace
I am dead now. JK coming back to life a month later!
Thing of the naow: Please let Scott Summer die in AVX
Because new readers aren't morons and they can handle a different team with different members. Especially since there is a title with the exact team in the movie just in case. There's no need for an entirely homogenous lineup. If that's the case, then the main title, Secret Avengers and other title with "Avengers" in the title should just have the team from the movie to avoid "confusion."
