spidey is a real avenger
wonder man has only had one cool scene ever(mollywhopping wolverine)
spiderman is a notable avenger
Mighty avengers was a lot of fun with hank pym
they label me a villain cause of how I express my feelings
I thought Thor sucked until his recent badassness in Siege.
FAdam K- How do you read comics and sit around on this board and not know who Gorilla Man is after the last couple of years??
Boycott #1 issues!!!!!
Where is red hulk's moustache?
I'll agree on the no such thing as a "real Avenger". Unless we mean stuff like the Dark Avengers.
But there are classic Avengers. Long standing members like Hawkeye, Scarlet, Wonder Man, Quicksilver, Vision, and the founders definitely count as that, among a few others.
My controversial opinion: I don't like Disassembled. I disliked the Bendis Era of Avengers for a while, but I've always agreed on one thing: there were aspects about the Avengers that had gotten stale. The romance issues of Scarlet/WM/Vision and Hank/Jan were just dragging the title, for instance.
A breath of fresh air was needed at the point of Disassembled. However, it was the execution that caused the controversy and hate. The idea was strong, but how it was done was inexcusable.
What Morrison did with the X-Men, Bendis did with the Avengers. However, it is the execution that separates them. That, and Morrison's changes were just plain too drastic for Marvel to handle.

But there have been some mainstays. Those are the classics.
However, when I hear "I want classic Avengers", it's not just the line-up they are talking about. It's the storylines, story structure, tone, mood, concept, etc.
I'm not saying they are right, but term "classic Avengers" goes beyond roster.
As for the Kooky Quartet that many people like to bring up: The Avengers were just a dozen issues in or so. I don't think there would be nearly as much of an uproar as you'd think. Not nearly as much as there was when New Avengers hit.
Oh and Thor is not, in fact, unbeatable. If he loses a fight, he lost. Get over it. Everyone loses sometime.
Bendis' New Avengers run was great, for the most part. It did something different with the team and sparked interest. Now we have different teams for those that prefer their Avengers a certain way.
Warbird is a horrible name. Sorry, Busiek.
While Civil War caused a lot of controversy, I thought it was an interesting idea.

I liked Disassembled.
Hey, that tiger is flying a spaceship.
Still though, you had people leaving or new members coming in all the time. Bendis just destroyed everything and took the Avengers down and brought them back up again. Same team, just did something different.
I thought the New Avengers tie-ins were great.
Spider-Man deserves to be an Avenger.
Wasp never should have been allowed to lead the team.
The Avengers stopped being the real Avengers in Disassembled … and it has nothing to do with them letting Dr. Strange do their fighting for them or opening their doors to Wolverine and Luke Cage. They stopped being Avengers when they abandoned Wanda.
Hawkeye is more important to the group than any of the founders. Or Cap.
New and improved me. Now with a CAPITAL “B”.
There are too many classic Avengers to ever be all-together on a a team anymore.
So many big characters need a more varied and individually tailored dynamic.
Also for "Earth's Mightiest Heroes" the Avengers are far too US-centric.
And there should have been a few more mutants over the years.
