Default Gillen or Fraction: Who do you want to write Thor ?

I just read the interview with Gillen about his 4 issue story of " Thor goes to Hell" coming up between issues 611-614.

It looks really interesting what he will do considering this is not Gillen tying up any loose JMS plots or Siege issues. This will be his own story.

It seems that the Fraction/Ferry issues will start with 615 as Ferry has been given more time to get his art updated in time for the start.

Here's a link to some of the designs:

    So, Fraction or Gillen ?

I'm a big Matt Fraction fan. Like, he's one of my favourite writers today, so I'd probably pick him over Gillen. Not only that, but I'm also a big fan of Pasqual Ferry's artwork, so I'm really eager to see that. His stories that he has planned for Thor seem to be to my personal taste, and favour, while Gillen has a very mythological and regal, action based stories for Thor (which work great), Fraction's dialogue, wit and action scenes would be great to build up this franchise even further.

However, Keiron Gillen is a very solid Thor writer and Doug Braithwaite is awesome. But my choice is probably Matt Fraction. In an ideal world, they'd both write Thor stories, haha. Which do you want writing Thor, adey?

Those are really cool looking designs from Ferry.

But... these are designs for a Thor book? Really? It looks like stuff that belongs in Nova, Guardians of the Galaxy or something. I've got to say... the things Fraction seems to have in mind aren't things I'm interested in reading in Thor. It all just seems like such a radical departure from what JMS was doing with the book, and I really enjoyed that stuff. I'm kind of turned off by the idea of a more cosmic Thor. It's actually really disappointing because Fraction's Thor oneshots were so great. But it sounds like he's ditching that approach for his Thor run.

I'd honestly rather Gillen stayed on the book.

Well, Fraction has said in his interviews that he'll be dealing quite closely with the rest of the Nine Realms that haven't been explored yet, so it'll be quite closely tied to Norse Mythology. There's a lot of potential for a story here.

I have not been too impressed with Gillen's stories so far. They are not bad, but I have not been blown away either. Of course, he's had a thankless job, both following the fantastic work of JMS and then having to clean up after "Siege".

I believe (and please correct me if I'm wrong) that Fraction wrote the series of "Thor" one-shots from a few years ago (I can only remember one of the titles - I think it was "Man of War") which dealt with Thor in Asgard. I thought that those stories were extraordinarily good. If they are indicative of Fraction's work, then I think that he will be a worthy successor to JMS.

Adey, old pard, you have a bit of Loki in you asking for a pick like this.

    I can't do it.

Fraction's Thor one shots were great, they had that wondeful mix of new and old, making the myths feel fresh but not unfamiliar.

Gillen has kept the court intrigue but made his characters more active, the are melancholy marauders, romantic roughhousers, contemplative combatants.

Plus Gillen is ON TIME - after JMS' lovely but glacial run - timeliness is next to godliness.

I can't pick - I want to buy both their books every month!

I don't mind either. Tbh I wasn't that impressed with the Thor one-shots from Fraction a couple years ago. They were good, but not as good as some people made them out to be.

I also thought his SI Thor was average at best, especially with that Big Bertha skrull villan ??? wtf ....

I'm glad about Ferry on the art but I hope he isn't slow and the book comes into delays again.

I would of preferred Deodato on Thor again as I always loved his past work on the character. Plus, he has improved alot since those days.

OK - since you said you are going to produce some more of your excellent art - I will man-up and pick....

    Gillen.

His fleshing out of Tyr - really won me over.

If you get a chance check out some of the chapters of my Tyr story at the other place - maybe you'll be inspired to do an illustration.

    Gillen.

Fraction's work on FCBD wasn't as impressive as I thought it would be and his run on Uncanny is mediocre.

This is a hard choice. Im gonna say Gillen, despite the fact that Fraction is one of my favorite writers only because a) Gillen's Thor has been outstanding so far, b) I'd much rather have Fraction focus on Iron Man and getting Uncanny Xmen up to speed, and c) I'd really like to see Gillen graduate to the upper echelons of Marvel writers, and I think Thor is a great chance for him to show what hes got.

As much as I love Fraction and the previous Thor work he has done, I say Gillen should take it. But, I am super excited to see what Matt does on the title with Ferry, whose art I adore.

In an ideal world, I'd love fraction doing his kirbyesque Thor stories he has mentioned doing while gillen maybe does some Asgard stories.

I'm a pretty big fan of fraction and actually loved his thor SI and tales of Asgard, but I think gillen (to my surprise as i was unfamiliar with him) has done an amazing job. If I had to pick one of the two, I'd go with fraction since i like the artist with him more than i've lived gillens artist, but I'd love them both somehow. Mythological chars are some of my favorite and gillen just really gets them it seems.

On Thor, I'd have to say Gillen. Fraction's Thor one-shots were great, but the FCBD was just bad.

Ideally I'd prefer Gillen and Ferry on a new SWORD series though.

I want to give Fraction a chance, but I also want a longer run from Gillen. It feels like we only seen the tip of the iceberg with him.
