Mark Gruenwald's run on Cap is my absolute fave, and I am a big John Walker fan. Nobody seems to know what to do with him though; just look at all the costumes and different status quo's he has had over the past 20 years. Most writers are liberal so they don't seem to want to write a conservative hero, so he ends up being the Avenger's Guy Gardner. I'd like to see someone write him as a headstrong hero who just happens to have conservative values.

Also, his original name and costume are way better than USAgent.

Methinks you need to re-read those Gruenwald issues because you've clearly missed when he and his flunkies were attacking foreign students attending college in America. He's not a "conservative hero" but a flat out thug who wraps himself in a flag without the slightest clue as to what that means. He deserves his station in the MU.

Im kinda torn by U.S.Agent. In concept hes a great idea, a more right wing version of Cap. The problem is in reality, the writers can't write him straight, and always have to make him a caricature of right-wingers. The same thing happened to Guy Garder, Peacemaker, The Question etc. Sadly comic book writers can't seem to help making characters like him a joke, despite the fact that left-wing characters who have even more extreme views (such as oliver queen) are allowed to be real human beings.

Planet DC. While he is sometimes portrayed as buffonsih, more often than not hes given complex motivations and thoughts, and treated as a threee dimensional character who happens to be a socialist, rather than a stereotype of a socialists. That's far more than U.S.A.gent gets.

Until Ollie attacks innocent people just because of their race or natural origin, he'll always deserve more than John Walker gets, but I've never considered Queen more than a joke. More a parody of a knee-jerk liberal than a real one. Rock bottom was when they had him screaming "Bat-Regan" at Batman.

A 90's story involving the character really used him well and I have been trying to find out what the story was called and who wrote it, but basically it had U.S.Agent going up against the hate-monger whose powers didnt work on U.S.Agent because ( and this was in the comic) he is above petty hatred.

A shame this wasnt followed up on.

yeah. this is the guy that was a diehard Osborn fan. they seriously need to make a more Avengers-centric Freedom Force and have USAgent and G.I.Ant-Man as members. it'd be an opportunity for them to embrace their buffoonery.

p.s. that reminds me. since he is an Osborn fan maybe John should be the next Iron Patriot. wearing a powered armor wouldn't make him a cyborg. so he wouldn't be breaking any personal code.

Please tell me G.I.Ant-Man is a real character. I need that in my life.

US Agent has been awesome from the start. For me, his high point is when he killed that whole chapter of Watchdogs and then ended the issue talking to his dead parents. That's a guy who has a hard time with reality!

I'd love for him to get back in the black and red suit, that's the best look for him.

I know he was originally a jackass and did some questionable things, but 20 years of exposure to truly heroic figures and service of his own counts for something. I think he has definitely moved to the "hero" category, even if he is an asshole.

Except 20 years haven't passed in the MU since he showed up and he keeps doing questionable crap.

Better not to, because you can't reconcile that with 99% of his behavior, the least of which is---yeah, I'm gonna say it again---the afforementioned beating up foreigners attending college in the US. He targeted and violently assaulted people simply because they were different. What's more petty than that?
