Default How is Dick Grayson in good with the rest of the DCU after...

I got to thinking about DC's super no kill policy for heroes.

Ollie killed Prometheus, after he destroyed and entire city and thousands of innocent people, and the surviving citizens of that city and the hero community seems to have abandoned him and want him arrested.

Wonder Woman killed Maxwell Lord and saved the world from a mind controlled Superman. She lassoed Max and said that was the ONLY way to stop him. Everyone turned against her. Even Themscayra did. This is the best known female hero in the DCU and people hated her for saving them. Even Superman was not happy.

Dick Grayson killed the Joker in the Last Laugh by beating him to death. Sure he was resuscitated afterward, but he still technically killed him. No one seems to have mentioned it since then and they seem OK with it.

Why is it that he got off so easily?

Pretty simple, because in the end, the Joker didn't die.

I think it's because not many people outside the bat-family necessarily know this happened, if I'm remembering correctly.

She seems to be doubly off the hook, Max Lord is no longer dead and no one can remember him so no one can remember she killed him.

You answer your own question. He's not dead.

If someone is alive you never killed them.

I guess (just guess) thats legally right but I wouldn´t really say so in a moral point of view, specially if killing him was the intention. If you tried to kill him and because of you he was dead, by its own definition you killed him. Not that you made the best job at it but I guess assasination would hardly be Dick´s area of expertize

In my opinion, I think the hero community should have been split about Ollie killing Prometheus instead of everyone being against him.

Dinah would have supported him, but going behind her back to do it and then shooting her with one of his trick arrows should have been the last straw instead of the stupid argument of Ollie doing it just to drive her away.

The Flashes could be split with Jay and Barry against it but Wally supporting Ollie.

Wonder Woman would be in favor, but Superman against.

Dick could be conflicted due to what Prometheus did to Roy, but would want to stand up for what Batman stands up for which would be completely against what Ollie did. Same with Hal, he's supposed to be a cop but this is his best friend who had a "legitimate" reason to do this.

I don't think the hero community knows. Regardless, out of all the villains, I think the Joker might get a pass in "We don't kill villains" department. But still...he's not dead.

Well, The Electrocutioner once killed Batman, but Robin brought him back so no one thinks he "killed Batman."

Having not read the circumstances it happened in, I can't comment too much on it, but I'm suspect of this widespread idea that it doesn't matter since he apparently came back to life after actually being dead.

The intent was there. Regardless of the end result, it still would've been murder. It's like a variant of the end-justifies-means mindset.

I like to think it's not a technicality like 'Joker didnt ACTUALLY die,' but more along the lines of, 'we know Dick Grayson is an amazing person, he thought joker killed his brother, joker crippled his b****, and killed a lot of others, lets cut him some slack.'

sometimes i wonder is in the DC Universe no death penalty in the usa ?
I don't know the us legal system so good, but i think villains like the Joker would qualify, so if Dick wants to see Joker dead he only would have to bring him to justice.
