I love Louise Simonson's work a whole whole lot but i am really not feeling this book much at all.
Mostly cause of the art work.
Of course the shoddy Jack Kirby wanna be backup pages aren't written terribly well and look like crap,
I am a bit surprised this is only a mini series tho i thought it was an ongoing from the beginning.
Granted, i'm not saying it's all bad.
it just doesn't hit me the way the original X-factor of this time did, which was a lot !
i used to love this book back in the day especially when all the younglings came aboard and it felt like a real family for the first time.
I think it's safe to say you didn't like it all that much...
Perhaps it was raining outside when you read the issue? I urge you to try it again when the sun is shinning and the birds are chirping!
No worries. It's your opinion and that's what these message boards are for. What do you think I'm ideally suited for?
I'm not sure if you are not suited for this since your style is somewhat reminiscent of Walt Simonsons in some ways but from the first sampler page i didn't like how you changed all the outfits immediately, granted they may be dated by today's standards but Louise keeps saying this is supposed to be a throwback title.
Also a lot of the coloring choices were a little over the top.
In this issue it seems you had some help but your two styles don't seem very similar even tho i'm not sure which one drew what.
Well, Walt used to draw XF so, in some context, it kinda works. As for the outfits, I see your point. I just had an idea and Weezie and the editors thought it worked out okay. Teams change their outfits at times and because this was a new book, I thought, "why not?"
As far as coloring goes... Well, I only color the covers. Jim does a great job of keeping that nostalgic old skool look to the book while still doing some fun digital tweaks. I guess that's just a matter of personal taste.
For some reason, Marvel hasn't been noting which pages Eric does and which pages I do in the credits and it seems like people aren't too sure of our positions? Do we both work on all the pages? Is Eric inking me or am I inking Eric? Fans seem confused because we're both listed as "artists". In truth, since issue #2, we've split the book up. Perhaps they should list which pages we're drawing, like some books do. We feel that although are styles are in the same vein, we are unique enough in our approach that a fan can discern the difference.
Hopefully, as the story continues you'll warm up to it more and more!
