Default CBR: Johnston Lets Loose "Blood on the Streets"

We spoke with writer Antony Johnston about August's four issue miniseries "Shadowland: Blood on the Streets," where four Marvel heroes must discover why the Hand is killing mobsters and if Daredevil is involved.

sweeeeettttt...Misty, the Silver Sable and Shroud! That is one hell of a combo. I can not wait for Shadowland. Kudos to the editorial and creative staff for showcasing some of the "forgotten" characters here.

Oh well, so much for thinking Johnston was writing an Iron Fist mini. I guessed wrong on that one. This could be cool though, but 4 issues? I hope this event doesn't have too many tie ins. Not that I need to buy them all, but it would have been cooler if it was a simple event between the main book and DD. I'm pretty sure Moon Knight will be a tie in August as well.

This looks brilliant, I am so stoked for Shadowland. Guess that was Silver Sable on the original promo, not a mis-coloured Collen Wing. I wonder if we can get an appearance from Arachne, Shroud's girlfriend. I love her as well (she is soooo much better than Jessica Drew)!

huh, interesting mix ~ i haven't seen Silver Sable in a while, she seems like the odd-duck here, as in the past she's always been more of a "high rent" mercenary.

I wonder if they'll address that Paladin has worked with both Misty (in the CW/Initiative era Heroes for Hire) and Silver Sable (he was a regular gun-for-hire for her in the early 90s). and didn't he betray/sell out the Heroes for Hire?

the art in those 2 pages looks gorgeous (if also highly disturbing). and i also wonder if Spider Woman (II) will show up? has she been seen since Omega Flight?

You know, i'm almost getting a "Heroes for hire" vibe off of this.

They had me at "Shadowland," but Misty Knight in the starring role here is definitely an added bonus, and Silver Sable is always fun. Paladin and Shroud's presence is sort of a surprise, but I like both of them well enough, and I'll be interested to see how they factor into the event.

I'm sure there are those who would disagree with me, but I for one am glad to see Shadowland garnering enough attention to receive its own tie-ins. I'm really looking forward to it.

"Blood on the Streets". What a badass title. It was enough to get me excitied enough to dive into the interview with a rush of excitement, but after learning of the characrters and why this mini will explore during it's brief five issue run, as well the very well done but close-but-no-cigar noir feel by artist Willinton Alves, I may ultimately skip this. Or rather, maybe I'll give the first issue a try since the premise does have my attention, but thanks to the character more than anything I doubt it'll grip as it would have it featured character I'm more familiar and personlized with.

Preview art looks great. I'm really looking forward to this.

I was hoping to see Echo during this crossover, but I don't think she'll be there.

I asked Tom Brevoort on Twitter when we would see her next, and replied he had no clue.

That's disheartening to hear. I was sort of anticipating her return in Shadowland, too.

Really? When and where did you learn this?

He'll likely be on the side responsible for those deaths - Daredevil and The Hand's.

    Thumbs up

Antony Johnston: When "Shadowland" was being planned, one of the decisions made was to do a bunch of one-shots and miniseries to tie in, as a way to focus on some peripheral characters and bring back other "street level" characters that we maybe hadn't seen in a while.

It sounds like the various organized crime factions in Marvel's New York play a role in this story. Will we see established gangs and players like Wilson Fisk, the Owl and the Karnelli crime family from "Amazing Spider-Man?" Or are you introducing some new factions?

The Fortunatos, from "Spider-Man," are the crime family we use to kick things off - but they're hardly high rollers and that's an important part of the story.
    Sounds good!

Peripheral characters? Other "street level" characters that we maybe hadn't seen in a while? The Fortunatos?

    Let's hope this means the return of Jimmy-6 . . .
