    Default Archive Question

I'm planning on buying the batman and dark knight archives, but I've noticed that the descriptions don't mention actual issue numbers.

For anybody that may have both the Batman and Dark Knight archives, do any of the issues overlap or do the collections cover different issues? I'm not wanting to buy hardcovers that collect the same issues so any info would be appreciated.

To the best of my knowledge, one set collects "Batman", and the other "Detective Comics". There shouldn't be any overlap.

I don't know how set you are on the archives, but may I suggest the Batman Chronicles? They are paperback, but much cheaper, and everything's in chronological order.

    That's got issue listings.
Yeah, um, uh... In Blackest Day or Brightest Night... uh, watermelon, cantaloupe, yada yada... a superstitious and cowardly lot... with liberty and justice for all!

I second this suggestion. You also won't have to deal with any over-lap in any of the books, since each book collects issues of both Detective Comics and Batman, in chronological order (as Batman was taken pointed out). These books are infinitely superior to the much more expensive and harder to find Archives books.

I also prefer the Chronicles, which collect the Batman stories from World's Finest, as well as Batman and Detective.

In addition to being cheaper, I greatly prefer the paper and colors, which are closer to the originals than the glossy paper and flashy colors one finds in the Archives.

Thanks for the info gentlemen. I believe I'll go with the chronicles since they all seem to be in stock at Amazon and the prices are good. A lot of the archive editions seem to be out of stock or out of print at Amazon.

I'm enjoying the current Batman stories, but I've been wanting to read the older stories and get Batman the Animated Series box sets for years. I have more money now so I've been looking into collections of the older stories and planned to buy them over the next few months as I pick up the BTAS sets as well.
