Yeah, this does seem like "They're doing this, we should do this too". Or, at least it seems that way based on Brevoort's response.

    Dude, this sucks.

Ultimate Spiderman was one of the best current cartoons. It was easily the best Spidey cartoon ever made. Ultimate Spiderman will be cool, but I have a hard time seeing it top a show that put all the best elements of Ultimate and 616 into one awesome combination.

Well, the new show cant be too bad I suppose. I'm reeeaaally looking forward to Ultimate Gwen. She's my favorite incarnation of Gwen Stacy. On the other hand, I liked the SSM incarnation of MJ a lot. In fact, a lot of the supporting cast in SSM was cool. They made Flash likeable, Gwen was awesome, MJ was awesome, Aunt May was as Aunt Mayish as ever, (etc...). Harry was cool too. He looked like he was going to progress into a fine supervillain. The Shocker, Rhino, and Tombstone where the best incarnations of their characters I've seen (Rhino was still one dimensional, but his raw power rivaled Ultimate Rhino).

Although, I'm looking forward to Ultimate Doc Ock. He, to me, seemed to be the most sinister and truely evil incarnation of Ock to date. I like him. But for the love of god, ditch the magnetism powers. That was the lamest twist ever.

I read Brevoort's response as essentially saying puppies should die and that all who disagree should be punished violently.

It's all in how you look at it I guess.

The truth is, the show was produced by Sony, Marvel just got back the rights for animation, and Marvel is owned by Disney. Disney is unlikely to want to work with Sony and pay or help Sony make more money, and I'm sure both Marvel and Disney want to do their own thing with an animated Spider-Man now that they can again.

Simple business really. A sad shame, but really simple business.
In short, Spectacular Spider-man could be considered the first victim of the Marvel/Disney thing.

...and now I'm gonna be in a hate Disney mood for a while.

Nope, just a friend of his, and an acquaintance of several people who worked on the show.

You know, on the plus side, if this is adapting Ultimate Spider-Man, then Peter Parker will finally have another character to talk to about his Spider-Man stuff after a very long time. While I really liked some of the older shows, and especially Spectacular Spider-Man, I sometimes wished that Peter could interact with someone about his duel identity without having to constantly internalize it (which did get tiring for me after a while). It might be nice to see Peter talk to MJ or Nick Fury about his troubles as Spider-Man, since it is something that we haven't seen in a while (not since Amazing Friends at the very least.)

    Exactly.

Besides, Tom has nothing to do with the Animation side of things, so they're asking the wrong guy.

Besides, the real thing that killed the show was the orginal nlock it was made for (kids WB) ending. So really, it's the CW who is to blame or 4kids.

I already posted this on the Ultimate Forum but hey..

I'm not feeling particularly optimistic about this. SSM was probably the best Spider-Man animation ever and had by no means run its course. Ultimate Spider-Man has a lot to live up to.

The teaser image doesn't impress me either. I never liked Hulk-Goblin and I'm not a fan of team ups in animation. Still, I'm willing to go into this with an open mind. There's every chance that it could end up being just as good as Spectacular was, if not better.
