Under most circumstances, this would be great news.

However, Spectacular may have been the best Spider-Man cartoon ever, so it's disappointing to see that get canceled for reasons that have nothing to do with artistic merit or ratings. Now it'll take Ultimate a few years to get to where Spectacular is now (the work required to cast the show, come up with an episode bible and actually do 26 episodes.) This type of cancellation also doesn't bode well for Ultimate's long-term prospects.

I also doubt that Ultimate the show will devote episodes to Peter Parker's personal life, which had been part of the appeal of the comic.
    Sincerely,

I'll reiterate what I stated in the Ultimate Forum..

Sad about Spectacular Spider-Man ending. I mean what is it with Spidey shows ending on cliffhangers or unresolved storylines? The 90's had Mary Jane still missing, Unlimited ended not resolving Spidey's return to Earth, the MTV one had Spider-Man quit, and now in the Spectacular show ends on a very bad note for Peter, with Gwen being with Harry and Osborn getting away.

But on the bright side, we'll see Mark Bagely's art animated! And get some cool apperances... I hope they don't stick too much to the Ultimate comics, and come up with some original ideas!

Bendis being involved in the project sort of leads me to believe there will be some concentration on Peter's personal life in the new show, but even if that is true, I'm sorry to see Spectacular go. I enjoyed that cartoon more than all the others put together. I truly thought it was well done, and was hoping to watch it for many more seasons.

I hope that there will be people involved who will take care to make this very solid like the previous show..
suggestions-- dwayne mcduffie, greg johnson, bruce timm, paul dini..

heroes that need to be seen: Iceman, Firestar, Power Man, Blade, Dr. Voodoo, Daredevil, Black Panther, Punisher, Shang Chi, Iron Fist, Moon Knight...

That would be weird, seeing a Paul Dini written Spider-Man. Cool, but weird. But I think the guy's a complete DC writer...

Greg Weisman should be somehow involved in this though...

"Iron Fist" is there in the teaser poster (not sure if the poster shown here earlier truly is a teaser for the show)

Here's what Tom Brevoort had to say about all this in his question and answers session from his Formspring account:

Q: http://marvel.toonzone.net/news.php?...ullnews&id=516 - this confirms a new Spidey toon meaning SPEC is gone right?

Tom Brevoort: Yes, there's a new Ultimate Spider-Man animated series on the way.

Q: Why should we care about this new show when Spectacular was so amazingly better than what you will put out there?

A: It's nice of you to keep an open mind and look at the thing before you judge it. You remind me of all of the animated Batman fans who were outraged when Brave and the Bold was announced, most of whom have come around to really loving it. A new show doesn't somehow mean a censure of teh old show--it's just a new show! And it'll be good or bad on its own merits. But it might be better than you think.

Q: Do you feel it unfair that we loose a TERRIFIC show just so you can have team ups? Would it be that bad to leave Spectacular alone and have both shows?

A: No, I don't think it's unfair. It's really amazing, the sense of entitlement some fans have. We did that show, it ran its course, and now it's done, like so many other things. And given the tremendous cost to mount a production like that, and the limited return on doing so going forwards, we're putting our efforts now into the next thing. It's absurd to think that we'd keep producing two competing shows about the same character at the same time. Who does that?

It's a shame Spectacular get candelled. Only can hope Ultimate will be even better.

    Not really.

With the exception of the shows produced by sony, most Spidey toons did have team ups.
