I keep saying this, there is obviously corporate thinking at work here. Sony produced the Spectacular cartoon. Disney/Marvel now owns the rights to do Spider-Man animated. But chances are they can't do that straight with the Spectacular cartoon without keeping Sony in the loop somehow or paying them. Thus, easier and cheaper to start fresh. Also gives them a chance to put their own spin on it.
From a corporate standpoint, there is nothing 'WTF' with this at all. It is only as fans looking on the surface that the illusion of 'WTF' comes into play, being as we don't give a damn about corporate, we just enjoy the cartoons, whereas corporate is rarely a fan of the cartoon, they're a fan of money. And like I said, this way is probably cheaper/easier/more financially sensible.
