Really loved The Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon and will miss it.
Sorry if this has been posted before in this thread since I don't have time to read it in it's entirety, but there is a radio play from Weisman where the Gargoyles meet the Spectacular Spider-Man. At conventions he would get actors from the two shows and guests from the crowd to act the parts out. Weisman said it is just for fun and not official / canon, but just me I'm going to consider as the last story in Spectacular Spider-Man's world. Just so I can get Carnage in that universe heh.

As far as the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon goes, I am looking forward to seeing Bagley's character designs in motion. Still I don't think Rollman, Yost or Kyle (if they work on it) can put on a better show than Weisman did. Heck I think Weisman can craft a story better than Bendis can too. Even so I love Spidey and hope they put on a great cartoon.

Currently Enjoying: Amazing Spider-Man, Justice League, Mega Man, Skull-Kickers, Shonen Jump
Looking Forward To: Street Fighter Origins Akuma and the next Berserk volume
One of the things I liked about Weisman's "radio drama" is that, even though it's definitely non-canonical to both Gargoyles and Spectacular Spider-Man, there are definite indications of how he would have developed the characters of both series had these shows been allowed to continue. It's certainly evident when the script talks about how Brooklyn was time-displaced and came back with a family of his own, which was what Weisman has gone on record as saying were his original plans for the character as Gargoyles progressed and even tying it to a spin-off series (which even Brooklyn makes a self-referential nod towards in a dialogue exchange.)
Perhaps it's presuming too much, but I can't help but think there were little hints of what possible ideas about future Spectacular Spider-Man plans being planted in that script if he had continued the series.

Actually, Brooklyn's time travels are canon now. We saw him leave and come back with new additions to the clan in the "Gargoyles" comic book, which Weisman was writing (and hopes to continue).
The Radio Play took place after "Final Curtain" of Spec Spidey, and "Phoenix" which would have been #12 of the "Gargoyles" comic, but can be found in the second graphic novel.
The Green Goblin is the anti-Spider-Man
Dr. Octopus is the anti-Peter Parker

Possibly, but it's not like Disney acted in any way another corporation wouldn't have.
Also not surprising.
Spectacular had a lot working against it. Least we got some good stuff while we can.
Here's to Ultimate. Hope it does well. If it learns from the last one's successes and mistakes, it could do very well (mistake=first Venom arc, success=mostly everything else).
A better looking art style would be cool too. It grew on me, but not terribly so.

I don't mind getting an USM cartoon, I just don't like that we lost SSM in order to get it.
the ultimate universe/take on charcyers and villains is kind of annoying.
What I loved so much about Spectacular Spider-man was that it tapped into the Silver age Spidey comics that Lee and Ditko and Romita created.
Sigh, I'm also sick of seeing the Green Goblin look like "Hulk-lite."
Will still give it a chance, but I'll never be able to really enjoying it because I never liked the Ultimate take on most of Spidey's villains.

IMO, the Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon replaced Batman: The Animated Series as the best comic cartoon ever. It was just fantastic. I actually liked that cartoon world better than the source material, which is definitely saying something.
Oh my god, Canon! *masturbates furiously*

Not really. While Marvel owns the characters, those particular likenesses designed for the animated series would still be considered property of SONY and couldn't be used without payment. I'm not sure about the plots and voice actors.
I remember reading about those issues when they launched Ghostbusters Extreme. Even though they had the rights to the Ghostbusters, they couldn't use the designs created for the Real Ghostbusters because it was by a different company.
"if you ever disagree it means that you are wrong."
I wonder if the reboot weren't gonna be based off USM or if there was no reboot, if this would still happen. Because I can't help wondering if that's part of the reason.
Not without paying Sony. And either Marvel or Disney doesn't want to do that or feel it is in their best interest.
Are you asking if this is because of the film franchise rebooting? If so, my guess would be no. The new cartoon franchise seems more to do with corporate differences between Marvel/Disney and Sony.
