    Oh, I agree with you.

I'm saying, I think people love to read something morrisonian when it has plenty of flash and bang in it. It's only afterwards they get pissed when they realised they missed so much hidden stuff.

    A simple analogy would be:

    You watch the Dark knight.

years later, You are re-watching LOST and one of your mates says to you, Hey look, it's Nestor Carbonel in LOST, He played the mayor in the dark knight!

    What!!!!!! Nobody told me that!

Exactly, Nobody is supposed to tell you anything. You pick it up as you watch.

Another possible problem: Do we really want to see another poor Wonder-writer set up plotlines and then have Editorial suddenly change their minds about letting him do them?

IF Editorial tells JMS anything, he'll up and leave.

....which would lead to the same thing -- a complex story coming to an abrupt and unresolved stop.

I don't want it simply for the reasons others have stated - I don't trust DC editorial worth a damn. I'm tired of years of set-up by writers only to have the writer yanked from the book before those stories can be finished.

Actually, it helps me a little. Let's face it: Whether true or not (And it's almost certainly not), the image a lot of fans have in their heads is that Gail was yanked off the book because DiDio had some dumb idea he wanted to do.
(Gail will be along shortly to deny this.) If it was any number of other people, accusations of cronyism would be flying around.

JMS, on the other hand, is nobody's stooge. He might not care that much about Wonder Woman, but he's not going to let Editorial feed him plots and order him to 'make them work.'

You have to listen to your boss. And JMS is not pure gold, he's done some stupid stuff with Spider-man before. (Spider-totem) The problem is, instead of finishing a story right he'll just leave.

Maybe part of him not finishing stories is because he drags them out. I dropped Thor around issue three or four because nothing was happening.

And some uber-stupid writing in that too. I get people were pissed off at Stark, but he's one of the smartest men in the Marvel U. He would NOT try to take Thor single-handed.

It's only Batman. Who cares? (Besides everyone at DC with a retirement account.)

Wonder Woman is made of much broader stuff. She is the world, whereas Batman is merely his own psyche. (That's how I see him, which is probably why I don't read him.) Thus she can have a "deep" arc, plus broad comedy, plus wild, simply super-heroic-type adventures, and get them all to work. Perhaps reading a string of them for some time would reveal meaningful themes and author postulations--always an added bonus!--and perhaps not. And perhaps the run will be brought short prematurely before themes have a chance to mature and bloom, and thus leave the readers hanging and confused.

For me, I thought JMS's best WW issues were 603-605 and the astounding 608-615. But ugh, that 618-626 arc stank to high heaven! How about y'all?
I think that Bats is actually DC's most diverse character. Unlike WW or Supes, Bats can be in street level and super-hero-y stories.

Actually, I think the TV show nailed Batman perfectly: A self-impressed boor who can pull anything out of his ass.

Add in the grim 'n gritty angst and we've got the 70's Bats.

Add in the incessant posturing and we've got the 80's Bats.

Add in the 'I'm SO much better than ANYone else' bit and we're up to the present time.

So you're saying that Batman would feel right at home in this forum?
