It went to crap when Perez chopped the Surfer up and had the Silver Surfer Corps running about in a really confusing story that didn't make much sense.

But in a more serious answer, I think it crashed out just after issue 100. The art became awful, the storylines were awful and even though it clinged on for a good 4 more years, it just never recaptured the glory days of Lim and Marz.

On a side note, is it wrong to miss the glittery holofoil/lenticular/hologram covers?

It's very, very wrong to miss those covers. Even now, as i flip through my collection, i cringe whenever i scan over some of those holofoil covers.

Obviously, eventually they got over used and were everywhere, but I always felt the odd bit of holofoil for anniversary or landmark issues were alright.

Thanos is second only to Jean Grey as my favorite Marvel character!

I have a Thanos commission someone gave me for my birthday a couple of years ago, by Ron Lim. I absolutely love it. I can't scan it at the moment, so instead I will paste one of my favorite Thanos scenes...it's from the same stuff as posted earlier in this thread.

    Thanos arch-enemies? COPS and HANDCUFFS.

    Seriously...I love Thanos.

There is something incredibly odd about seeing Thanos getting taken away by the police

Actually the Lim/Marz stuff was pretty bad. But the Lim/Englehart and Lim/Starlin issues were amazing. Marz just isn't in their league.

that is just too funny. imagine if cops tried that in the main marvel universe. well actually they would just die, nothing special.

After , the herald ordeal was just before the introduction of Tyrant , wasn't it ? At the time , it was still fairly decent. I liked Morg & Tyrant.

The Surfer had a sort of decent crossover with fantastic four & hulk in monster island in issue 93-96 , then after that , it was sort of muddled with the temptations from mephisto.
As mentioned , after issue 100 or so onwards , it went to pot. Who is Mike Lackey who took over from Marz for a while ? Afterwards , it just went from bad to worse.
Perez is a great penciler but his writing on the surfer was pretty much a dud.

It had a few decent moments, but trading Nova for Morg (who, let's face it, was basically Terrax filtered through the '90s XTREME! aesthetic) struck me as a very poor deal.

    LMAO!!

Oh man, that's just such a perfect way to describe Morg.

    He was okay, though.
    I seriously miss Captain Mar-Vell.

Not a whole lot of Thanos, but if you're a fan of the Cosmic stuff, it's pretty enjoyable, and the art is absolutely beautiful. I love the scenes with Silver Surfer and Galactus.
i remember the art being amazing. ill have to see if i ca find a copy when i go to a convention in august
