What glorious a Hellboy cover. So good it hurts. Royally and dark.
Smelling like humid old rock and dirt...

    Goodness .
Been called a 'good egg'. Been told to rock, been told to steady myself. Been told to (please) be goin' places.
Chillingly good stuff besides Mignola, Slint, M, Knut and really big chunks of tinfoil?
Half sunk in the mud, with one eye showing / a cracked smile and hair still growing /
your hands miles apart, as if they'd never met / you were the happiest I'd seen you yet

wonder how many comic readers who dont follow hellboy so closely will think this is the last story ever. this entier article makes it sound that way a little.

    thank god its not.

does this mean its mike mignola solo for the next 3/3rd like he has said. art and writing!?

Just read a review here (of the first two TPBs) that basically said you shouldn't bother with reading Hellboy since Mignola just randomly throws mythology together without clear purpose. Love how once again they will be proven wrong.

Very exciting time to be a Hellboy/BPRD fan...

    Then again... it always is.

Mignola and Fegredo have been doing such a great job with Hellboy recently. These last two series have gotten me fired back up for the character and the use of mythology has been wonderful. A pure pleasure.

Basically you could jump on anywhere, but it might possibly feel a little strange for you having bought "Hellboy: the Wild Hunt" but not "Darknness Calls" when you'd read in this interview, that those stories form an 'epic three-piece' together with the upcoming book.
If you wanna 'make sure': include "Hellboy: Seed of Destruction" into your first purchase, which is the first Hellboy book, although it really isn't vital or necessary for understanding any other Hellboy story.

Same as how you could read any complete Batman tpb without having read "Year One" yet, or any origin-story.
Stuff like origin-material usually is never vital anyway, although some publishers might present it as being *a must-read for any real fan*, y'know?

Like Batman would - one step away from solving the mystery or beating an adversary - suddenly be going: "I became Batman for my parents getting mu-" and immediately some bookseller steps in and goes: "Shhhh, that's going to be our next stand-alone publication for only $49.99"...
Leaving readers gobsmacked for being like: "your parents got what, muffled? Musified?
    Mustarded?
Mulleted and moustached by renegade mediocre barbers?"

Looking forward to the next phase, although I'm not a fan of how the Arthurian Legends ended up in there...too trite and jaded.

So odd to think these will cover the middle part of Hellboy's life, and there will be more afterwards. It feels so much like its getting close to his end, I just can't imagine how these are gonna wrap up.

    Excited though

I'm similarly non-plussed about the move towards shoehorning Hellboy into the Arthurian legend stuff. That world and the can it opens is much too large to add to an already full plate. Beast of the apocalypse is one thing, but the savior of mankind in the guise of Arthur's long lost relative- yikes!!

I wish Mike had made Hellboy an assist to a returning Arthur perhaps, but to make him literally Arthur re-do adds a layer that seems akin to 'mushifying' too many different aspects of mythology together to suite Mike's story needs. Not sure I agree with "trite and jaded"- as I'd accuse Mike of neither- but guilty of over reaching- yes.

    Meh.
I feel confident it's gonna be all pretty good at least somehow.

I could imagine how like really way back mr. Mike already decided to be wanting to be formulating a definitive and appropriate ending to Hellboy. Which in my view will inevitably have lead up to like a notable amount of decisions or crossroads somewhere along the way.
Like feelings or preconceptions of how not be ending Hellboy in any event.
I just guess that having Hellboy become of kinship to a) humans and b) Kings will be serving a purpose.
But at the same time it seems just form for story, nothing that descriptive or foreboding narrowness or anything like that.

I'm just gonna keep reading. It might be pretty decent after all .

Oh ok gotcha. Yeah I read it was part of a three parter. Um yeah I just don't know what to read first lol I guess my best bet is the first volume and if i like then I'll just work my way up. I've talked to my LCS and they recommend the first tp, but yeah I understand what your saying. Again thanks alot.

Oh yeah I might pick up that one-shot thats coming in May, looks like its a lot of fun.
